Tired of playing as Azazel and finding pickups which only grant flight? Sick of playing as The Lost and repeatedly coming across items which only work when you get hit? Then this is the mod for you!

With this, you’ll no longer encounter any items which are guaranteed to be useless – or outright negative – for those characters who start every run with special abilities or hindrances.

Features
  • Affects ???, Azazel, The Lost, Lilith, and Keeper.
  • Each character has a list of blacklisted items which is unique to them.
  • Replaces blacklisted pickups with items from the current room’s Item Pool, where applicable.
  • Replaces Collectibles, Trinkets, Cards, and Pills.
  • Whenever you re-roll your items, blacklisted items the game gives you will be replaced with new items from the Treasure Room pool.
  • If you manage to deplete the Item Pool when playing as The Lost, you’ll start receiving Boom! from item drops and re-rolls rather than Breakfast.
  • Prevents blacklisted cards or pills from being given to you by the Decck of Cards and Mom’s Bottle of Pills respectively.

Blacklisted Items

A full breakdown of which items are blacklisted for each of the affected characters can be found on this spreadsheet[docs.google.com].

However, here is an overview of the type of items which are generally blacklisted:

  • ??? – items which give red health, spawn red hearts, or require red heart containers to feel the benefit.
  • Azazel – items which grant the ability to fly, items which give spectral or piercing tears, and any items which are otherwise overridden by Azazel’s starting short-range Brimstone laser.
  • The Lost – items which give flight, items which grant spectral tears, items which only trigger their effects when you receive damage, items which grant any type of health, and items which require more than half a heart of health to work.
  • Lilith – items which apply tear effects that can’t be used by the Incubus familiar.
  • Keeper – items which affect how much damage you take per hit, items which require you to be at half a heart of health, and items which grant coin-consuming familiars.

Notes
  • If you pick up an item which is blacklisted for a different character, and then you change into that character mid-run, the item will not be replaced.
  • If you’re carrying a blacklisted Active Item, Trinket, Card, or Pill after changing into a character the item is blacklisted for, the item will be replaced if and when you drop it.
  • The choice of which items to blacklist is sometimes subjective, but in general I blacklisted items which are only helpful in very specific scenarios, while leaving items which give a very small benefit, but do so all the time.
  • It’s possible there are some items which were wrongly blacklisted, or weren’t blacklisted when they should have been – feel free to let me know if you have any ideas for improvements!
