The Bank of the Great Ocean
The Bank of the Great Ocean is another addition to my extended campaign series. With this mod, you can now take out loans or invest money with a bank, whose identity and origins you will discover through events.
Loans work by giving the player the requested amount of funds. Only one loan can be taken out a time. The player will have 20 turns to repay said loan, and every turn until it is repaid, a seven percent interest rate will be charged.
Should the player run out of money, or simply not pay back the loan within the required timeframe, the bank will fund mercenaries to take what is owed to them by force. The player will also be banned from using the bank for another 20 turns because of low credit.
Investments work by allowing the player to submit a chosen amount of money and after ten turns, 150% of that money will return from interest in the player’s favor. However, if the player gets banned from the bank due to failures in paying back loans, the player’s investment will be confiscated by the bank.
I designed the mod with multiplayer in mind, so it should be fully compatible. I spent a large amount of time working on this functionality, but there are quite a few moving parts. If you notice any issues in multiplayer let me know what happened so I can try to fix it.
This mod should be compatible with anything. Let me know if you run into any issues. I have run into issues using the mod configuration manager and other UI mods in the past, but I don’t know if that was just a problem I had personally. If this isn’t working you can try disabling the mod configuration manager and see if it does anything.
This is probably my most complex mod so far in terms of the sheer number of things that could go wrong, which is why I’ve spent months working mainly on testing. If I missed anything and you find any bugs, please let me know!
If you don’t see the icon for the bank appearing, make sure you have UIMF installed and enabled.
1 February 2019: There was an issue with the player being able to exit out of the diplomacy menu before the function finished after pressing the confirm button. There is now a delay so the bank menu will not close until the function finishes. Just in case it is not fulproof, which it was during my testing, just allow the function to finish before leaving the diplomacy menu. The time required varies depending on processor but mainly just dont start spamming esc as soon as you press confirm.
Q: Is this compatible with [insert mod here]?
A: As you can see in compatibility, it should be compatible with everything. I can’t see a reason why it would not be compatible with something, but the easiest way to find the anamalous mod that could be out there which doesn’t work with this is to simply try it and find out. If the bank symbol is there and you can take loans or make investments, then its compatible.
Q: I don’t see the button in the diplomacy menu at the top right
A: If you have UIMF installed, there is something wrong with the way you are activating your mods. Try only having this and UIMF installed and see if the issue persists. I would suspect that there is a problem with how you are enabling mods because it should definitely be there if this and UIMF are both installed properly.
Q: Does the AI use this?
A: The AI does not use this. Even if I wanted to put in the work to implement the AI usage of the bank, there is no real reason to do so. Bots receive huge bonuses and essentially never really have to worry about money. It would not really cross a bot’s mind to take out a loan because its easier for them to "cheat" money.
