Description:

This will adjust one or more batteries, with a total power consumption rate equal to your engine’s maximum power consumption, to account for rapid drops and fluctuations in power consumption from your engine.

An engine turned on max speed that is suddenly lowered in speed will cause major overvoltage while the reactor is in automatic mode. This system smooths out the grid load caused by the engine allowing energy that would be lost in overvoltage to be captured in batteries.

This only works if you have a grid layout similar to vanilla subs. If you have a direct battery buffer on the engine already, this won’t do anything for you.

This doesn’t remove the need for vigilance over your power system like some ships do. If the batteries capturing the excess engine grid load fill to 100%, the system can’t smooth out the fluctuations anymore potentially causing damage if you are actively piloting your sub. If the batteries fill, this doesn’t actually break anything, the grid will then just behave like it normally would without the surge protector until the batteries have used some of their charge.

It’s best to have one or two normal batteries in addition to the recapture batteries you use. The power recapture batteries’ charge rates cannot be manually changed and will only gain charge when smoothing the engine’s grid load.

The recapture batteries you use with this should have a total recharge rate equal to the power consumption value of your engine. Slightly under and slightly over should still be alright but you can test it by watching your reactor’s power graph. You can use multiple batteries or a single battery with an edited charge rate value.
