Why This Map?

–> Did you like the look of Civilization V’s maps?

–> Do you find that – even with a mod like GrrrArrrg’s Environment Skin: Sid Meier’s Civilization V – as you grow your empire and place new farms & districts in Civilization VI, the map takes on an ever more cartoony look?

This (huge) map is designed to keep looking good even as your civilization expands. It does this by surrounding the areas you’re most likely to settle with lush landscapes that will continue to frame your cities nicely.

It also adds another layer of strategic planning, as it provides lots of lumber, stone, deer and fish, which can be harvested at the appropriate time to jump-start your city’s growth. Magnus (The Steward) will finally really have a role to play.

This map should be played with GrrrArrrg’s mod "Environment Skin: Sid Meier’s Civilization V" enabled. You find that mod here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1702339134 (all screenshots above were taken with GrrrArrg’s mod on).

This Map Has Its Resources Pre-Set

Accordingly, there’s no benefit running any of the resources mods (like Resourceful/Resourceful 2 or Sukritact’s Resources). I suggest disabling them for this map, to prevent mod conflicts.

Suggested Set-Up: 14 Civilizations and 12 City States

The map can accommodate 18 or more Civilizations, but it does get a bit crowded. Personally, I found about 14 Civilizations to be just about right. Go easy on the City States! They tend to hog some of the prime real estate on this map, and can get in the way of your seamless empire building. I found less (of them) to be more.

Suggested Difficulty: King or Higher

This map creates – unsurprising given Civ VI AI’s existing weaknesses – some additional difficulty for your computer opponent. In my trial runs, the AI wasted considerable resources because it did not/could not recognize some of the terrain advantages this map provides (which a human player will). Hence, if you like a fair challenge, it’s a good idea to play on a high difficulty to make the AI a worthy opponent. You’ll be surprised how even a seemingly crushingly superior AI enemy can be cut down to size once you wear down its massive armies in mountain passes and on coastal chokepoints created by cliffs.

Suggested Starting Position: Legendary

In my trial runs, choosing Legendary instead of Standard for the Starting Position resulted in a more interesting distribution of Civs across the map.
