Description:

I long since had the wish to add additional search options to the character finder. This mod is the closest way to achieve this. It doesn’t add new search fields, because that is impossible, but it adds a new layer of displayed informations. These additional informations are presented striking enough for you to simply scroll down and immediately see, which character has much money, bloodlines, good artifacts, strong claims, can be arrested, etc. No necessary viewing of every single character site and no reading from dozens of tooltips. And the best is that the display of these new informations can be turned on & off – not through a game rule – but with a simple ingame interaction, that is available at all times and has no practical influence on the game.

There is also an alternative version of this mod available, with more striking displays, which is however a little immersion breaking: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1821239516

How does it work? Well, basically it is a portrait mod (for compability issues see further down, but dont worry, it is made in way that should make it compatible with a vast variety of portrait mods, even big ones like Better Looking Garbs). You know the lover/rival overlay? That red or pink circle around a characters face, depending if they are in love with you or hate your guts? I replaced this overlay with a new color-coding that represents different things to make them clearly visible while searching in the character finder.

Such a thing however would greatly affect gameplay, if you would be unable to enjoy the normal characters portraits, because of a permanently visible color overlay. Therefore you can turn it on & off by setting your councilors in idle mode (the images explain how to do this and how to avoid the 5 years (?) cooldown of changing your councilors jobs).

The mod shows and DISTINGUISHES between the following things (every function is also displayed and commented in the images on this page):

Chancellor – Adds an overlay, which displays, if a charachter has strong or weak claims on empires or kingdoms.

Marshal – Displays, if a character has a formed, historical or saintly bloodline.

Steward – Displays different amounts of wealth.

Spymaster – Shows, if you have the right to imprison a character or revoke their title (even those that aren’t your direct vassals) and makes direct vassals visble (e.g. for sorting out religious differences and such things – see the pictures)

Chaplain – Makes artifact quality visible for the stages 3, 4 & 5 (Best used with my other mod, which makes artifacts searchable in the character finder) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1806080283

When you set a councilor in idle mode not every portrait will be immediately updated. You will have to wait up to one ingame month for every portrait to be updated. Same goes for going back to normal. (BTW: If a councilor is without job for a longer time, they might start leading armies, which makes it impossible for a liege to reassign them to a task. There is a button there, which forbids councilors to lead armies, so you might want to use that just in case). Combining of councilor functions doesn’t work. They would block each other.

COMPATIBILITY
Like I said: The mod uses a base game feature (the lover portrait overlay). So, if a portrait mod supports this feature, then there is no reason why both mods shouldn’t work with each other. The only thing you have to do to try this, is to go to C:UsersYour NameDocumentsParadox InteractiveCrusader Kings IImod, open the file "character_finder_addon.mod" in a text editor and add the name of the other mod under dependencies (if you open the file, you can see how it was done for Better Looking Garbs. Just do it the same way).

IRONMAN
The mod as a standalone is ironman compatible. The consequence of this it that the mod doesn’t work for children, because those have a static portrait, which doesn’t use any graphical overlays. If you use a portrait mod, which changes that (e.g. the non ironman compatible version of Better Looking Garbs), then the Character Finder Addon will work for children too (you can even see this in one of the images).
