Description:

This mod adds several unique units to each AoC faction with a minimalist approach. Special unit types were added which weren’t previously in AoC (eg pikes, axe throwers, crossbow cav, elephants, camels). Each unit has been made to fit vanilla AoC balance and design for each faction.

Overall, these units will diversify unit rosters in AoC and make gameplay more interesting, without sacrificing the balance and design of the vanilla AoC unit roster.

New Unique Units added:

Avars:
[Shield Bearers] : a levy spear unit wielding large, tall shields (Tier 1)
[Avar Warlord] : a noble sword cavalry unit riding on armoured horses (Tier 3)
Kingdom of Charlemagne:
[Levy Pikes] : a levy pike unit (Tier 1)
[Frankish Pikes] : a medium pike unit (Tier 2)
Kingdom of the Danes:
[Spear Hirdmen] : a spear equivalent of sword hirdmen (Tier 2)
[Axe Throwers] : an elite axe melee unit that can throw several axes (Tier 3)
Westaphalia:
[Axe Veteran] : an axe equivalent of sword veterans (Tier 2)
[Raider Cavalry] : a versatile axe melee cavalry unit that can throw several axes (Tier 2)
Kingdom of the Lombards:
[Shielded Crossbowmen] : an upgrade from crossbowmen, wielding a large shield (Tier 1)
[Gastald Macemen] : an equivalent of Gastald swordsmen (Tier 2)
Kingdom of Mercia:
[Longbowmen] : a ranged unit with a unique longbow (Tier 2)
[Royal Knights] : a proto-feudal unit after researching the civil tech Feudalism (Tier 3)
Emirate of Cordoba:
[Camel Riders] : a desert melee cavalry unit (Tier 2)
[Mercenary African Elephants] : a rare beast of war from Africa (Tier 3)
Kingdom of Austurius:
[Mercentary Crossbow Riders] : an elite ranged cavalry unit wielding crossbows (Tier 2)

Crossbowmen for Charlemagne, Lombards and Austurius too.

Comments and Compatability

This mod fits seamlessly with vanilla AoC balance/gameplay and is compatible with all mods. All mod updates are savegame compatible.

While historical accuracy is kept in mind, liberties have been taken to make the content match vanilla AoC design and for better gameplay.

Updated in 2017 to fix bugs and fully/properly balance all units!
