On Steam Workshop

Description:

Makes your civilization’s survival significantly more difficult and annoying.

Summary

1. Stronger barbarians.
2. New cities are even worse.
3. Civilians & Great People die.
4. Settlers cost 2 population and 120 production.
5. Civics and Technologies cost 33% more and boosts are 65% instead of 40%.

Detailed Changes

Below is a detailed description for each category of changes. I did summarize the Terrain section, but that’s because it’s pretty intuitive and a full list would be exhausting.

Barbarians

1. Barbarians grow more bolder over time, especially if they kill one of your units.
2. Barbarians are deterred less by losses.
3. 3 times more barbarian camps, they can live closer to you and each other!
4. Barbarian technology raised to 75% of players from 50%.
5*. You get +2 experience from combat with a barbarian instead of +1 when at the cap.

Cities & Civilians

1. Cities no longer start with a free amenity.
2. Cities get one less housing when settled without fresh water.
3. Capital cities can be razed.
4*. Aqueducts are better.
5. Civilians and Great People die when captured. No free settlers, no scouting with Great People, they’ll die.
6. Great People move much slower.
7. Settlers cost 120 production and 3 population (aka can be built in a city with 4 population).

Terrain

Long story short,
1. Attacking into features (Hills, Forest, Marsh, etc) grants a hefty bonus to the defender.
2. Attacking into open terrain (flat land with no features) grants a small bonus to the attacker.
3. Forts, Rivers, Barbarian Camps, and The Great Wall now grant a larger defensive bonus.
(Careful of those barbarian camps of forested hills, they’re nasty)

Compatibility

The mod works with Vanilla, Rise & Fall, and Gathering Storm.

Feedback

Let me know if you think the mod is too easy or if there’s a particular strategy I missed that makes it too easy. The purpose of this mod is to make it difficult regardless of how annoying it is.
