Description:

Updates:
* Fixed a minor localization issue caused by a Paradox bug: all Berber kings and emperors will now use the Agellid/Tagellidt/Amenkad rank localizations, even if they are Musliims. Because let’s face it, you’re not playing this mod for the Muslim flavor.
* New compatibility patch for use with Dido’s Legacy! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1916481596
* Fixed problem with pirate/etc traits and bloodthirsty gods traits sometimes being removed from Amazigh Reformed characters

Sacrifice virgins to ancient gods, fight alongside armies of possessed warriors and restore the ancient Carthaginian Empire. All of this under the watchful eye of the old African gods.

West Sahelian: Flex on ’em casteless
The Western Sahel is home of a wide variety of religious traditions, this faith is meant to work as an umbrella for all these cults, letting the player choose which specific branch they want to focus on. It includes all the common elements of the West Sahelian religions: Fixation on the Sirius star, strict caste system and some weird myths about hermaphrodite jackals.

– Fully reformable. So you can take an actual living faith and fill it with incest fantasies. Your parents would be proud.
– A unique reformation doctrine, so you can do weird divination rituals and stop pretending that your third wife is a “concubine”. (Also includes Eldership)
– A caste system so you can make sure to tell that guy who has an Empire six times bigger than yours that you are still better than him because you didn’t marry some ♥♥♥♥ daughter of “merchants”.
– Its own holy order of guys who are technically slaves and yet apparently can still boss everybody else around. (Unlocks after reformation when a non-African controls Gao, Timbuktu, or Wagadou, when Jihads unlock, or at latest in 1066.)
The yearly ritual sacrifice of a virgin to a dark snake god so you can pull the pro gamer move of randomly killing a woman.

Bori: Getting possessed by feminists
Bori is the name given to the traditional form of animism practiced among the Hausa although similar cults exist in the general Lake Chad region, so we are not just putting the cult there at random. This is a religion all about getting lady priests to make you possessed by spirits of dubious morality. It’s also an organized religion.

– Access to every single gender succession law so you can either make your mother feel disappointed by excluding all women from government or live a feminism fantasy because you just don’t get me dad, I am smashing the patriarchy.
– All female priesthood, so next time you go to a priest orgy at least it may be a cute priest.
– Pseudo reformation so you can turn the friendly religious grandma into an actual African lady Pope calling for great holy wars against the infidels. (The religion starts with an autocephalous religious head, and can be “reformed” into having a singular religious head with Pope powers.)
– A yearly parade that’s all about horses. Do you like horses? Of course you like horses, everybody likes horses.
– Special honorary titles for the Kanuri so they can game the Eldership system like pros, Kanem didn’t last more than a millennium for nothing. (Kanuri Muslims can also use Eldership to continue to take advantage of this.)
– A holy order of dudes who are all possessed by the ghost of R. Lee Ermey. (Unlocks when non-Africans control Kano or Djimi, when Jihads unlock, or at latest in 1066)

Amazigh: Because ♥♥♥♥ Cato, that’s why
The Berber faith. Look, sometimes you make religions that are actually consistent, based in the writings of anthropologists or colonial officers pretending to be anthropologists while being only a little racist. And sometimes you say ♥♥♥♥ it and put together sources 800 years apart and just pile it together because that’s what you got available. My boy, it’s time to restore the Carthaginian Empire and salt Rome with the hottest meme religion this side of the Atlantic.

– Fully reformable, it’s not like adding incest is going to make the religion any weirder.
– On the brink of collapse at every start date, with holy sites spread like crazy because this religion is hard mode. Goddess Tanit didn’t raise no quitter.
– Unique overpowered reformation doctrine that let you sacrifice babies and make the Mediterranean your ♥♥♥♥♥ so you can get more babies to sacrifice, like a true Carthaginian. (Prepared invasions + Seafaring + Bloodthirsty Gods)
– Restore Carthage, because Cato the Elder was a huge nerd and you are not letting some dork boss you around.
Start imperial reconquest to restore the old borders, Make Europe Carthaginian Again. (Targets the kingdoms of Maghreb, Africa, Sicily, Sardinia and Corsica, Valencia, Badajoz, and Andalusia, and is usable against Muslims.)
– Start an invasion against whoever is sitting in Rome and in Rome 2 Electric Boogaloo Constantinople. Burn the cities to the grown, salt the land and make Hannibal proud. (Also take any counties you’ve sieged during the war. For multiplayer value, the ruler of the various Roman successor states can also use this CB against Carthage.)
– Being less of a meme religion than Zunist.

Features of all three religions
– Intermarriage with all other African religions and with Muslims (although West Sahelian will have trouble with intermarriage due to castes)
– GHWs – after either West Sahelian or Amazigh has been reformed, or a Bori has used the pseudo-reformation decision, an event can fire to unlock GHWs for all African religions that have reformed/psuedo-reformed, similar to the event for pagans. The only other requirement for the event is that Jihads must be unlocked. The event has a MTTH of ten years. There are also crusader traits for all three religions.
– Worship the ancestors and Abrahamic syncretism decisions are available for all religions
– Each religion has a secret society and access to the vanilla African warrior lodge

We have a lot of future plans for the mod, and are looking for help from modders, or people who can do image editing.

Compatibility
This is probably incompatible with most other religion mods that change things other than localization, but see the PDX forums thread for a patch that makes it compatible with Ancient Religions Reborn: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/mod-african-religion-overhaul-restore-the-carthaginian-empire.1201989/page-5#post-25738933 That thread also contains more information, such as the locations of the Amazigh starts at each start date, and additional features not listed here for space reasons.

It’s technically possible to play this without Holy Fury, but I don’t recommend it. No special compatibility has been set up for use without HF and the reformed religions will be a bit dull. You will also lose the bloodlines, and Eldership succession. You should also not enable this mod if you want to play in an alternate history start with randomized religions, and I suspect that some things might be wonky in alternate history starts in general.
