Description:

***IMPORTANT***

This mod doesn’t work and, according to findings with help from Rhadamant (you’ve been a massive help mate, I really appreciate it), it unfortunately never did. All those times I thought my tests were working must have been all in my head. It’s embarrassing, but it is what it is.

Please don’t waste your HDD or SSD space with this failed project, it doesn’t work and never will by simply replacing individual files the conventional ways.

The only way this mod will ever work is if I pack my edited files into the game’s .BNK file, provide that as a download and tell everyone to overwrite the game’s vanilla .BNK with it. I will not do this as it’s not feasible. It’s an unsafe method of distribution and relies on everyone to trust me and my intentions. I know I’m trustworthy but none of you know me aside from what you’ve seen in this mod’s lifetime, and I wouldn’t tell anyone to download a mod from an unofficial source regardless of who the uploader might be.

I wish everyone the best, you’ve all been so supportive despite my repeated failures and I really, really appreciate it.

Here’s hoping Kenshi 2 won’t have issues with music being too loud, eh? And if it will, let’s at least hope it’s easier to mod than the first game.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

All the following text is the old description, left in for posterity

For stable patch 1.0.51.

There’s some music in the game that’s far too overpowering, but not in a good way. The volume is just way too loud.

In an attempt to not feel like I’ve suddenly walked into a frickin’ subwoofer set to over 9,000, I’ve lowered the volume on music files that abuse decibels worse than a shady underground nightclub.
Specifically, I’ve lowered the decibel count by 5 all across the board, so it’s not going to be volume-abusive but the emotion and atmospheric quality is still there. As time has gone by, specific music files have had more or less reductions in volume due to being much loude than, or not as loud as other offending music.

So far I’m confident that I’ve almost caught every offending music file, much of which has been found by you lovely people. However, there are probably other pieces of music that are too loud despite all of our efforts, so if anyone notices any then let me know where you were in the game at the time the music played (the game organizes music files based on biome, like Dunes, Swamp, etc.), and the more precise you can be with the location, the easier it’ll be for me to find and isolate the offending music.

All audio files within the 4 .BNK archives have been tweaked, which are "Dunes_Music_Bank.BNK", Savannah_Music_Bank.BNK", "Swamplands_Music_Bank.BNK", "Tarsands_Music_Bank.BNK"

Additionally, the music you hear at the main menu has been also been tweaked, and its audio file is the sole inhabitant of the "MT_Music_Bank" archive.

Due to the problems with some music still playing too loudly, I’ve converted all the files back into WEP file format, which the game uses by default. This means that the mod’s total file size has gone from being ~230 MB to now having a whopping total file size of over 1 GB.

I’ve played the game for at least a couple of hours and all music in the game I heard is now playing the mod’s volume, as far as I can tell.
As always, let me know if you spot a piece of music that’s still too loud by leaving a comment or post in the mod’s relevant discussion thread.
