Description:
This is a performance mod that reduces the (soft-cap) maximum number of units that can be on the board at one time.

Maximum number of total units is now 20 (default game setting was 50).
What this means is, if there are 20 or more units on the board (including XCOM, Advent, Lost, Resistance and Civilians), enemy reinforcements cannot fly in until the number drops below 20 again. So if there are 19 units on the board and a dropship brings in 4 units, you will still end up with 23 units on the board. Pre-placed enemies at the start of missions will still spawn normally, so it will not break missions that start with a high number of units (such as Retaliation); these missions will still work like normal.

Maximum number of Lost is now 10 (default game setting was 25).
This will delay additional waves of Lost until the number in play drops below 10. Pre-placed enemies at the start of missions will still spawn normally.

Maximum number of Lost Waves is now 5 (default game setting was "infinite"). After 5 waves of Lost Swarms, there will be no additional waves for the remainder of the mission. This is because, after bodies start to pile up, performance and frame rates really start bogging down. (I once finished a 4-hour mission at 7 FPS with 156 Lost kills. Each Lost turn took several minutes because AI was overloaded.)

As a side-effect, because this mod limits enemies’ ability to send more troops, this has an added bonus of preventing impossible missions in which enemies stack up faster than you can kill them. This will prevent Lost from spawning infinitely when your objective is "Neutralize all enemies".

Safe to enable or disable mid-campaign. If you are in a mission, changes will not take effect until next mission. This mod may not work if you use another mod that modifies Unit Cap.

Note (Spoiler) — In XCOM 2, there is a story objective to hack an Advent Captain to make a Codex appear. If there are too many units on the board, the Codex will not appear (because it counts as a "Reinforcement" pod) — however, this will not block campaign progress because your objective changes to "Kill a Codex", which can be done by killing any other Codex in any other mission.

You can edit these numbers by editing the config file (only change the lines that have a + sign), found here: C:Program Files (x86)Steamsteamappsworkshopcontent2685002075465256ConfigXComGameData.ini
