Medusa Hero: One of the Girls
Notification: This mod REQUIRES Mixu’s Unlocker! because it adds a new Medusa agent type to Dark Elves. It’s not a big deal for most of you, but this is the first mod I have produced requiring the unlocker so you have been notified. See REQUIRED ITEMS at the right hand of the screen.
This little mod has been a passion and learning project for me. I really like the River Troll Hag Hero, and I felt like a similar awesomeness level was missing from the Dark Elves. If you have seen my Venerable Thane mod you know I like parity mods that add some of their own unique asymmetry.
This mod converts the Bloodwrack Medusa from a Monster into a Hero. That means:
-Heroes have caps
-Heroes get to equip ancillaries and magical items
-Unique Medusa hero skill tree
-Heroes should be able to get mounts (this is out of order… monsters don’t have campaign files and there is no simple fixing for me)
The Skill Tree:
Unique portion of the skill tree is based on which of the three Dark Elf Goddesses the hero decides to serve. Once service begins the alternate skill paths are locked out. See the Skill tree in the image.
Atharti is the Elven Goddess of Pleasure and Seduction (Bloodwrack Gaze skills)
Hekarti is the Elven Goddess of Dark Magic (lore of Dark Magic skills)
Drakira is the Elven Goddess of Retribution (additional Melee and Rage skills)
Hero Type Engineer:
Engineers increase army campaign movement speed and local revenue. Rather than assisting with engineering efficiencies the medusa intimidates the army and populace into higher efficiency.
Starting Units:
– Morathi starts with a unique hero named Lauran the Heart-Render who has the powerful trait Grimgaze.
– Removed the starting hydra.
– Malus loses the starting medusa, but gains a starting hydra.
Tower of Sorcery:
– Reduce from Tier 5 to Tier 4
– Adds +1 Medusae Cap
– Adds +4 Medusae Rank
Compatibility:
May be incompatible with mods which effect the Tower of Sorcery, the Medusa or the Bloodwrack Shrine. You may submod for this mod to facilitate compatibility if you wish.
Known Issues:
– The campaign hero icon is lifted very high above the head of the model. I have no idea what is causing this.
– Despite the model assets being available for the bloodwrack shrine mount, I don’t know how to animate and connect it to the hero. Because this is a monster with it’s own skeleton it’s more complex than your average hero mount.
– The campaign porthole is focused on the floor below her tail. I don’t know if this is common for all monsters since they don’t have a hero portal or something weird for the Medusa that needs to be adjusted. The model needs to be adjusted down by 1.6 or vice versa the camera needs to come up 1.6, but it’s not clear where this is defined. This is weirdly more complex.
-Faction Screen does not show the updated starting units.
Based on the known issues above, I honestly don’t feel great releasing the mod in this state, but I hope you enjoy it despite it’s deficiencies. If the issues become more clear, I will make updates. As is, there are no descriptive guides to animations that I can find, and these files are all sealed so you cannot inspect them to understand them better, so it’s a tough nut to crack.

I would love to see some new youtube tutorials on creating total war animations. This would help on projects like this a lot I imagine.
This mod wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for Cryswar’s Guides and assistance provided from folks at the Modding Den[discord.gg]. Special thanks to Ole for creating and updating Asset Editor, Marthenil for creating and updating Selfiehammer, MaskedMustachio for creating the Youtube lessons that taught me enough to create this mod, and Meh for creating the Medusa campaign animations used in this mod.
I hope you enjoy! Let me know what you think in the comments below.
