Description:

This mod adds two new units to the High Elves: Phoenix Watch and the Dryad Horde. The Phoenix Watch are Phoenix Guard who have taken up bow, spear and shield, while the Dryad Horde is an extra large unit of dryads. They are strong but expensive and only so many can be created at once. Reskin Compatible, research/rite/lord skill compatible. Note that these units are strong but expensive and only a limited number may be fielded.

These units also come with vanilla-like unit portraits and unique flavor text. The idea was to make them as lore friendly as possible.

Update 27 July 2018: Now for every Level 3 shrine of Asuryan you build the unit cap for Phoenix Watch is increased by +2!

Phoenix Watch:

The Phoenix Watch are essentially Phoenix Sea Guard, a combination of Phoenix Guard and Sea Guard. They come equipped with the full complement of shield, spear, and bow. They can dish out and receive extreme punishment.

Stats: It’s easiest to describe them in comparison. Compared to Phoenix Guard they have 10 less entities per unit, trade a 30% physical resistance for 10% physical and 10% ranged, and while not armor piercing in melee they are still anti-large like Sea Guard. Compared to Sea Guard, they have the same range, a few points more ammo, slightly higher charge, but a ton more armor. This is because the Watch use Phoenix Guard armor with its hefty value of 100, definitely more in campaign after upgrades. Note that they also use Dragon Prince shields, screenshots using the Sea Guard shield is outdated.

Recruitment: Recruited from the same building as Phoenix Guard. Has a campaign limit of 18 units, and with each additional level 3 Asuryan shrine you increase the cap by an additional +2.

Dryad Horde:

It’s the Dryads you love, but in a whopping unit size of 200(!). Unleash the fury of an embattled world in an endless of mass of snarling bark. Be careful with these units, however. 200 is a lot of tree people but they’re no stronger or deadlier individually. The enemy can cut through them as quickly as regular dryads, the only difference is that there are way more of them.

Stats: Stat wise they are essentially identical, but have a slightly increased charge value. They do have one big bonus though: They have the ‘Expendable’ trait. This means that if these units route they will not negatively impact the morale of nearby units, just like Skaven Slaves and Bretonnian Peasants. Feel free to drown your enemies in a sea of angry tree.

Recruitment: Recruited from Alarielle’s level three unique tree building. Has a campaign limit of 8 units.

Compatibility:

This mod only adds units so it should be compatible with nearly all mods. However, if you use a large overhaul mod which overhauls all unit stats (SFO I think) then the units may not be balanced appropriately.

This mod is re-skin compatible. This means it is compatible with Dryrain Reskins. This is because this mod does not touch models or textures in any way, it merely creates a new unit using existing meshes pulled together. So any mod that changes models/textures for Phoenix Guard, Sea Guard, and Dragon Princes would probably affect the Watch as well.

These units are affected in campaign by all research, rites, and lord skills. That’s right, no worries about missing out on stat boosts. The Watch are extra lucky, in that they earn all bonuses Phoenix Guard would but also earn all ranged bonuses Sea Guard receive. Case in point, Watch will benefit from the red tree line that boosts ammo, range, etc but also benefit from the red tree line that boosts Phoenix Guard melee stats. For compatibility with skill mods I did not change the text to include them, but you can see in game your Watch will get strong with Phoenix Guard related boosts and their ranged strength with archery/sea guard boosts. Dryads, sadly, don’t have as many bonuses but they still will be affected by rites.

About:

This mod was a huge learning experience for me and I published it mainly for myself. These were units I wanted to see and have fun with. They may not be strictly lore-friendly or balanced, but hopefully reach an approximation of that. Ideally I’ll create other 2-3 unit mini-packs for other factions, but its going to be for factions as I play them.

Feel free to leave comments and suggesstions but keep in mind modifying my mod is easy too! Just give it a try and open it in PackFileManager.
