Description:

The HoKi 1000 is a 35-ton hopper car for transporting fly ash and calcium carbonate (CaCo3) for round-trip transportation that was introduced in 1993 by Japan Freight Railway. It connects a cement plant in Mie Prefecture with a coal-fired power plant in Aichi Prefecture, carrying calcium carbonate from the cement plant to the thermal power plant on the way there and fly ash from the thermal power plant to the cement plant on the way back. The large white carbody of the train, commonly called "White Hoki" by railroad enthusiasts, will be replaced by Hoki 1100 from 2015 to 2021, increased the maximum speed from 75 km/h to 95 km/h.
