Description:

This mod aims to bring more dynamic relationships into EU4, by allowing alliance shifts given a change in the balance of power.

Are you tired of never being able to ally Austria and France together, as they historically did, no matter how strong Prussia got ? All of that from start, while France and England are not even historical rivals, despite centuries of conflict ?
I have always felt that EU4, being about writing our own version of history, should not permanently disable the player from doing any action, regardless of the course of the game and the balance of power. This mod aims to correct precisely that issue.

Features
  • Historical friends are now replaced by a +100 opinion boost from start, decaying by 2 every year. Being a historical friend no longer grants a huge loyalty bonus, like Lithuania towards Poland, or Norway towards Denmark. Beware of your actions
  • Historical rivals, on the other hand, receive a -100 opinion malus from start, decaying by 2 every year. Being a historical rival doesn’t prevent any country from allying another one, given they improve relationships before.

I also plan to modify historical rivalries, so that countries start with historical relationships. For example, England should be historical rival with France in 1444. Austria, who shared no land connection with both Ottomans or France in 1444, and had just got elected on the throne of the HRE, should not be historical rival with any of them in 1444, but only later on. Hungary, on the other hand, should be rival to the Ottomans in 1444, until it gets vassalized as the Principality of Transylvania.

Compatibility
  • All languages supported
  • Compatible with “all” mods, since it only adds one event and changes two opinion modifiers.
  • Not Achievement compatible since it modifies gameplay
