Description:

The Hawaiian People’s Army has liberated the islands from US imperialism. The war has ended, but the revolution is just beginning. Much of Honolulu’s infrastructure was bombed, destroyed by natural disasters, or fell into disrepair during the war. While the United States has reluctantly recognized the independence of the People’s Republic of Hawai’i and ended their bombing campaign, a nation can only truly be independent politically if it is independent economically. The capitalists thought Hawai’i could only support plantations and tourism and military bases, but the working class has proven them wrong, finding ore in the difficult and remote areas the capitalists thought worthless. But extracting it will not be easy, and most of the manufacturing industry will have to be built from scratch. Can you rebuild ‘Oahu and turn it into a red star shining brightly over the Pacific?

Features & Notes:
– The resources are fictional, because I don’t like island maps without any resources, but they’re placed in hard-to-reach areas, far away from Honolulu. There is no oil – either import it, or use a mod that adds biofuel plants (I thought that was more fitting because of Hawaii’s sugar production).
– This map is very mountainous, but there are still many plains you can easily build on. You’ll have to make use of leveling, switchbacks, and/or tunnels to cross them. There are some damaged highways (Pali and Likelike) north of Honolulu you can rebuild.
– Some cities are placed slightly differently from their real-life locations, because I needed to put a city name there, or I didn’t have time to align everything perfectly.
– There are pre-built railways, approximating the route of the historical Oahu Railway & Land Co. But it’ll still take some work to rebuild them, and to connect them to resources, especially in the east.
– You start with a good amount of ships, to reflect captured merchant and navy ships, as well as a few low-end trains and road vehicles. There are also prebuilt harbors. Honolulu International Airport is there, but heavily bombed, with only one usable runway.
– Because there’s a lot of prebuilt infrastructure, I’d recommend decreasing your starting funds if you want more of a challenge. You’re going to be racking up significant import bills as soon as you unpause.
– Fun fact: Hawaii had a large and active Communist Party before statehood, and until recently the largest rate of unionization.
