Green Sahara (1.6)
Mod has been updated for Iberia patch. (finally)
Perhaps the rains never went away. Perhaps our world was never firmly destined to be the way it is now. Or perhaps this vast grassland is, upon closer inspection, really just made of Zimbabwean bank notes. Either way, the Sahara is now an arid steppe.
In this mod, in case you couldn’t tell , the Sahara has been turned into a grassland. An event for which there is historical precedent. most of the terrain in North Africa, sub-Saharan Africa, Egypt, and the Sahara itself have been altered. these alterations are based loosely on the past, and creative liberties have been taken to spice things up, generally though, terrain has been altered to form 3 distinct belts, a fertile grassland, arid drylands, and grassy steppes.
some notes/justifications for things
Steppe: I turned the dessert into a steppe because steppe represents areas that are wet enough for grasses, but too arid for agriculture. this allows for the simulation of a region that is devoid of any feudal "civilization"(translation: it’s my excuse for not adding new provinces).
Drylands: I chose drylands to represent a sort of transition area between the steppes and the plains. just consider them regions that are barely suited for agriculture.
Plains: what you were probably here for.
Random Forests: honestly i just added these to make the map look a little less bland. there are several in north Africa, most notably Morocco, and a few more thrown around haphazardly with no real concern for pesky little things like soil quality, water availability, and consistency.
Farmlands!: I threw in some farmlands just to add some extra gas to this dumpster fire.
Wetlands: Oasis’ are depressions in the ground were ground water leaks. Realistically, increased rainfalls would turn these into lakes or other such bodies of water, but since that would be a pain in the ass to add in, i did the next best thing and turned into wetlands.
***DISCLAMER***
if anything doesnt work, let me know so i can patch it
Also this mod DOES NOT add new provinces.
