Gaster
“Beware the man who speaks in hands…”
The Mystery Man hidden within Undertale, most widely known as “Doctor W.D. Gaster,” has escaped from the void and into the world of Rivals! Use his unique aerial movement, unusual attacks, and deadly setups, to corner opponents and send them into the abyssal shadows.
His specials all rely on instances of his creation, the powerful Gaster Blaster. Neutral, Forward, and Down Special will spawn one, each move placing them differently.
Neutral Special will allow him to aim the Blaster in 8 directions, based on the left stick’s rotation. Press parry while aiming to destroy the blaster.
Down Special will have him activate the Blaster, which will charge up before shooting a powerful beam in the direction it was facing. While it requires foresight to successfully hit, it’s a very deadly attack that rivals should fear.
Forward Special will always spawn a new Blaster, even if one is currently out, so long as it isn’t blasting. It can be sent further by holding the button, and can be moved slightly up or down with the stick while moving.
Up Special is a ☝︎☹︎✋︎❄︎👍︎☟︎, followed by a small jolt upwards. While not normally an exceptional recovery tool, holding the button while a Blaster is out will have him swap places with it, allowing him to teleport just about anywhere. Keep in mind that it has quite a lot of landing lag, and it may put the Blaster in an unideal position.
His floaty double jump, combined with his heavy gravity and low air friction, leads to rather unique aerial movement that he relies greatly on. The use of Double Jump Cancels is key, especially for combos and recovery.
For example, holding Nair while double jumping at the same time is a useful way to recover without relying on the Blaster. This technique is key to mastery.
He has a number of strange attacks with unusual attributes, so he may feel a bit different from the standard fighter. As such, it’s advised to visit training mode for more detailed information.
