Ascended
Ascended is a mod that implies to spice up your gameplay by introducing new stacking difficulty mode, which is heavily inspired by Eclipse from Risk of Rain 2 and Ascensions from Slay the Spire.
Ascension effects (total of 14 at this moment)
- I – Discharged active items
All newly encountred active items and starting ones as well will be discharged by default. - II – Worse pickups
Certain consumable drops are replaced with their worse counterpart:
Counterfeit Penny (25%) – 50/50 chance to gain you money or do absolutely nothing and disappear on pickup. Useless coins can be detected by Guppy’s Eye or when playing as Cain.
Broken Key (35%) – You’ll need to find another part of a key to get yourself whole one. Note: the first key in the entire run is guaranteed to not be replaced.
Wet Bomb (25%) – This kind of bombs is usable only on the next floor. - III – Higher shop prices
All shop items cost 35% more. - IV – Emptier floors
25% chance to replace any non-vital special room with the empty one. - V – Full heart damage since ch. 3
Speaks for itself - VI – Weaker soul hearts
Soul hearts will now receive full heart damage. Isn’t affected by previous ascension. - VII – Broken destiny
All characters (except T. Keeper) start with three broken hearts (or one in case of regular Keeper) - VIII – Items don’t heal you on pickup
Disables healing for picking up items in any shape or form. - IX – Extra Boss Room each floor
Every floor will now have additional boss fight just like with the Curse of Labyrinth. Though, beating this extra boss won’t award you with an item.
This should work for modded bosses too, but I haven’t tested it that much. - X – Room may not gain you charge
Each third room doesn’t charge your active item(s). - XI – Worse beggars and blood donation
Almost every beggar now has worse payouts.
Blood donation machine though will work just like if you were playing as the Keeper. - XII – Less room for consumables
Speaks for itself, but I’d like to note that this one is worked quite well. - XIII – Less invulnerability
Isaac will now take damage twice as frequently. - XIV – Chased by Death
A Spelunky-styled ghost will now appear on each floor after a certain time threshold.
Additional notes
- To make this work, you need to start a new hard mode run. Beating the game with Ascended active will increase ascension level for current character that will persist between every run.
- All effects and any progress are disabled in: Normal mode, Greed/Greedier mode, Challenges.
- This mod uses DeadSeaScrolls as config menu – this means you don’t need to install any additional mods. Press [C] or [f1] to configure stuff.
- You can enable freeplay mode in DSS options, which makes progression optional part.
- It’s possible to change Ascension number thru `ascend x` console command, where the `x` is a needed ascension.
- Works in multiplayer (both local and through networktest, though through the last one all players need to sync their ascension levels if needed (how? – see above))
- Should work fine for most modded characters (unless you’re constantly installing or removing ones).
- This gamemode does its best mostly during Eden streaks.
