Sleep Kirby

Kirby joins Rivals of Aether… but with the Sleep Ability?! Unable to get some sleep and have dreams, Kirby’s going out on an adventure with a goal of being able to rest once again: and it seems the residents of Aether are in his way.

Sleep Kirby may seem harmless at first, but don’t be fooled by his demeanor: he’s fully alert and ready to fight at a moment’s notice. Use Fspecial or Dspecial to force the Sleep Ability on your opponents, then give ‘em a rude awakening while they’re down!

This move comes from Sleep’s Charge Attack from its moveset in Kirby: Battle Royale. You can “store” the charge of the move by pressing the parry button when it’s fully charged. The projectile itself isn’t fast, but it lingers onstage for quite a bit and has high damage with decent knockback. Use this to hold down parts of the stage and rack up damage!

This move comes from Sleep Kirby’s “Y” Attack, also from its moveset in Kirby: Battle Royale. Sleep Kirby will try to force a nightcap on whoever is unfortunate enough to be right in front of him. If it hits a grounded opponent, the opponent will fall asleep and become immobile. The time an opponent is put to sleep scales with their percent, so putting them to sleep when they are at low % may not be the best move – use it at when they are at a high %. If it hits an airborne opponent, they will be dunked without being put to sleep. Could be useful as a way to spike opponents. You can also bounce around Burst Bubble by hitting it with FSpecial, in which it will go at a downward angle and can even bounce off the stage!

The hand that appears in the Game Over screens appears to give Sleep Kirby a lift to recover and to continue fighting. If you use USpecial (or are in special fall / pratfall) and you touch your Burst Bubble, you’ll bounce off of it and are able to use USpecial again!

For Down Special, Sleep Kirby will place down a Sleep Copy Essence onstage, similar to how some Sleep Copy Essences are used as obstacles in the Kirby games. You can knock the Ability Star out of the Essence as a projectile that will put opponents to sleep. Be careful – anyone can hit the Essence and Ability Star, so it could potentially backfire on you as a result, so watch out! You can also grab the Copy Essence with Nspecial, in which the bubble will merge with the Essence and can inflict the sleep status if it hits.

Some of Sleep Kirby’s normals also have unique attributes to them.

Sleep Kirby uses his basic three-button combo attack from its moveset in Kirby: Battle Royale. It looks like a normal Jab combo at first glance, but wait around after doing the full combo. Why not lay down and take a nice nap afterwards?

A traditional Kirby technique. This move can allow Sleep Kirby to slide underneath certain moves and projectiles. Is ledge-cancelable. On hit, Sleep Kirby will bounce upwards.

Sleep Kirby spins his pillow all around him for his Neutral Air: this move is pulled from his aerial B attack from Kirby: Battle Royale. This move covers a wide distance all around him. Landing during the move’s active frames has Sleep Kirby slam the pillow down in front of him. This is a very powerful move, so use it as a surprise K.O. option!

Sleep Kirby kicks in front of him for his Forward Strong. This move goes slightly further the more the move is charged. Hang on, this move seems familiar…
