Description:

Republic P-47 Thunderbolt (1:1 Scale)

The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was a World War II-era fighter aircraft produced by the American aerospace company Republic Aviation from 1941 through 1945. Its primary armament was eight machine guns, and in the fighter-bomber ground-attack role it could carry rockets, bombs and drop tank. When fully loaded, the P-47 weighed up to eight tons, making it one of the heaviest fighters of the war.

I chose a beefy, muscular model for my second WW2 fighter build in Stormworks; P-47 Thunderbolt aka "Jug". It has two medium engines to represents its 2400HP Pratt & Whitney R-2800-59 18-cylinder air-cooled radial piston engine. The most prominent feature is its even-symmetry. Fuselage is 6-blocks wide. Thus, propeller, pilot’s cockpit and vertical stabilizer need to be in center. I used 2 compact linear tracks force-moving the large linear track because large linear track doesn’t take number input. The second most prominent feature is its automated propeller pitch control. This feature enables gradual acceleration, rather than instant speed gain by powerful engines. Also, propeller pitch is limited on ground for eliminating propeller strike or uncontrollably fast taxiing. If your brakes are ON, propeller pitch will not increase.

DESCRIPTION & FEATURES

– Even-symmetric design
– 18 projected (mini) LUA screens
– Efficiently working flaps and flight performance for easier takeoff and landing
– Good first person cockpit view
– Gradual acceleration for better taxi performance
– Automated propeller control with rps-based throttle control for creating efficient and smooth performance
– Over 120m/s top speed, powered by double medium engines
– 8 rockets, 2 bombs, drop (fuel) tank and machine guns
– War Emergency Power (WEP) throttle mode
– Manual/Auto Propeller Pitch options
– Unsynchronized retractable landing gear
– Auto pitch trim up if nose-dive when on ground to avoid propeller strike
– Radio
– Gunsight
– Feedback sounds for Pilot’s seat buttons and flaps
– Other QoL features such as parachute, heater, generator, rear-view mirror, reserve battery, interior and exterior lights…etc

PILOT’S MANUAL

1. Check front side of drop tank, you will see fuel dial and indicator light which will light up when drop tank is empty.
2. Jump twice or use handles to get on the left wing. You can also jump on to tail more easily to reach cockpit.
3. Close the canopy and turn Starter ON
4. Flaps ON (for easier takeoff)
5. Parking Brake OFF
6. You’re ready to go using throttle and taxi if necessary
7. Remember to turn ON generator also
8. Turn Flaps OFF when you are airborne

Note2: In auto mode, propeller pitch (collective) is 0 between 0-0.20 throttle (idling) and gradually increases to full at around 0.45 throttle. On land, propeller pitch is limited at 30% and if brakes are ON on the ground it’s limited to 0%.
