Alfa Romeo 33
This mod includes one Alfa Romeo 33 passenger car produced by the Italian automobile company Alfa Romeo in the comune of Pomigliano d’Arco. This model is the liftback series 905 (1st generation) after restyling and with a 1.7-liter engine.
This compact family car was a continuation of the Alfasud model, it had a common topological structure and was based on the same chassis and other mechanical parts, with some minor changes. The 5-door liftback was designed by Ermanno Cressoni at the Alfa Romeo Style Center and entered production in 1983, while the all-wheel drive wagon was introduced the following year. Unlike Alfasud, a 3-door version was never created.
The 33 became notorious for its nimble handling and powerful Boxer boxer engines, but also for its unreliable electronics and tendency to rust (a common complaint on Italian cars of the time). Another controversial point was the braking system and increased weight. The inboard front disc brakes have been moved to a position next to the wheel hubs (on the Alfasud they were next to the gearbox). The rear disc brakes of the Alfasud have been replaced with drum brakes. The car was equipped with a huge number of innovations from Alfa Romeo, including an adjustable up and down steering column, a plastic hood and a box for documents and things (binnacle). The stylish design helped kick off sales in the UK, with the Daily Mail noting a drag coefficient of 0.36, as well as an impressive design for 1983 that is better than big cars like the Ford Sierra and Audi 100.
In the autumn of 1986, the model underwent the first restyling. The 1.7L engine was introduced and the appearance was slightly revised: a simplified dashboard without a storage box was added, the radiator and bumper grilles changed slightly. (It is this version of the model that is implemented in the mod.) The second larger restyling was made at the end of 1989, then the 2nd generation of the Alfa 33 model, the ‘Nuova’ 33 (Series 907), was born, which was produced until it was replaced by the Alfa Romeo 145 and 146 in 1994. In total, about 1 million Alfa 33s were produced.
