HMAES Illustrious (1980)
This is the battleship Illustrious, the sister ship of the Audacious, my first battleship uploaded here in the workshop. This one is a look into how the Audacious-class would’ve looked like in the middle of the Cold War. This particular depiction of Illustrious is before her decommissioning in 1980.
For Illustrious‘s modernisation, I took mainly inspiration from HMS Vanguard, as well as some elements taken from the modernised Iowa-class and HMS Belfast.
Unlike my previous two ships, this one is truly complete – all the weapons are there, masts are fully detailed, custom radars are there, anchors added, chains done, any missing deck details were added, and for the first time, rigging. In addition, I reworked some parts of the hull to be smoother and better-looking, and fixed some missing railing issues.
The custom weapons are made using adjustable blocks, and so aren’t functional.
Thanks, and I hope you enjoy this ship!
