Maurice, the crustaceous champion, is here to get rid of the gutter trash in rivals of aether. Heavily inspired by Dudley from 3rd strike, Maurice is a fast, slippery, and powerful boxer who has every tool he needs on the ground to weave in and out of his opponents range before he unleashes a devastating combo. However, his air mobility and power is very sub par, so try to stay grounded to secure victory.

Nspecial: Tidal Lunge
——————————————————–

Tidal lunge is a fast forward moving maneuver that has lots of invincibility frames to quickly evade an opponent’s attacks. During Tidal Lunge, Maurice can perform one of 3 different follow-ups depending on what button you press during the lunge.

Attack pressed: "Hull breaker." A forward moving straight punch that hits hard and is good as a combo ender and/or kill move.

Special pressed: "Depth charge." A sliding 2 hit uppercut that launches opponents into the air for a combo.

Jump pressed: "Rip Current." An invincible back dash that sends Maurice backwards a fair distance. Perfect for baiting and avoiding attacks.

Fspecial: Galleon Strikes

Galleon Strikes consists of a forward dash that then transitions into a flurry of punches. If Maurice comes into contact with an opponent during the initial dash, he will immediately transition into the flurry of punches.

Dspecial: Take the bait

Take the bait is Maurice’s counter. Maurice pretends to let his guard down, gaining super armor for a short period. If an opponent lands an attack on Maurice in this state, he will immediately retaliate and let loose a powerful haymaker. This attack only has hitboxes in front of Maurice.

Uspecial: Torpedo Uppercut

Torpedo Uppercut is a 2 hit uppercut that sends Maurice upwards.

Unique Mechanic: Cancellable moves.

Maurice can cancel several of his attacks into other attacks or specials.

Jab: 2nd hit can be cancelled into specials or tilts

Ftilt: First 2 hits can be cancelled into specials and Dstrong

Dash attack: 1st hit can be cancelled into specials

Unique Mechanic: Super meter
——————————————————–

Maurice’s super meter can perform many things. Firstly, the meter builds by dealing damage to opponents, with PARRYING an attack successfully building a substantial amount of meter. When the super meter has reached a quarter of its length, Maurice can perform EX moves by pressing the SHIELD button shortly after performing a special move. The benefits of these enhanced specials are:

Nspecial: Goes a farther distance, and Hull Breaker and Depth Charge both deal more damage and knockback.

Fspecial: Deals more damage and knockback in addition to the first few hitboxes recapturing airborne opponents.

Dspecial: Deals much more damage and knockback.

Uspecial: Deals more damage and knockback in addition to going much higher than the regular version.

When Maurice’s super meter is full, he can perform his selected super art by pressing the ATTACK and SPECIAL button in unison.

Unique Mechanic: Selectable Super Arts.

At the start of each match, Maurice can select one of 3 different super arts by pressing either left, up, or right on the joystick. These supers have varying range, power, and effects on meter gain, so choose wisely based on your needs and character match up. The super arts include:

Super art l: "Crustaceous Corkscrew." A powerful, multi-hitting, punching vortex that pulls in any enemies hit and then launches them away. Can only be used on the ground and builds meter at a decent rate.

Super art ll: "Final Torpedo Uppercut." A strong multi-hitting uppercut that goes high into the air. Pulls opponents into the center of the tornado and does not put Maurice in pratfall. Can be used on both the ground and in the air and builds meter at a decent rate.

Super art lll: "Clawk n’ load." A punch so strong it sends out a stage wide hitbox. This attack is Maurice’s only ranged offense, and though it does good damage, it can only be used on the ground and builds meter the slowest of all 3 super arts.
