Much better than this one!

Open canned food with a hunting knife, kitchen knife or stone.

No more need to carry a heavy can opener. This sentence says it all.
But this convenience is not given for free.

Can openers for show, knives for a pro

Little bit of pain never hurt anybody, if you know what I mean. Also, I think knives are a good idea. Big, f**k-off shiny ones. Ones that look like they could skin a crocodile. Knives are good because they don’t make any noise, and the less noise they make, the more likely we are to use them. S**t ’em right up. Makes it look like we’re serious. (c) Soap

There is a chance to break your knife or to hurt yourself (they are independent events).
A chance to damage a knife depends on the character’s Short Blade skill.

* A kitchen knife will lose 3 condition points in any case and additionally more according to the table.
** As of Build 41.45 both knives have max condition of 10.

A chance to get a deep wound on the left or right hand (one at a time) depends on the character’s Short Blade skill and the Lucky/Unlucky traits.

So, basically, the Lucky trait reduces a chance by 3% and the Unlucky – increases.

Stone to the rescue

But what if you are stranded in the middle of nowhere and starving to death? Oh, you conveniently have a closed can of food?
"Thanks for the mod but I don’t have a knife, broke it when fought for my life." So close to salvation…
"Use your can opener then, idiot", someone would say. "Silly people, I don’t have any. Threw it away since installed one mod", you’d think. Wait…
There’re no people. Finally, NPCs? Nah, Build 43 is too far. A talking zombie? Hallucinations? You’re going crazy talking to yourself.
"Find a stone. Remember the story your uncle told when you were a kid? You thought it wasn’t possible… Try or die."
Your brain tells the right thing. Now go find a stone (not a chipped one) through foraging and open your saving can of tasty food! Dog food? Haha, who cares.

However be careful, there’s a ~33% chance to hurt yourself: a deep wound for your left or right hand. This chance does not depend on any skill or trait.
Still better then death, right?

SOME IMPORTANT INFORMATION
  • In order to open a can using ANY tool your character should NOT have any untreated hand wounds;
  • It will take twice as long to open a can with a knife than with a can opener and four times as long with a stone;
  • This mod allows to use knives and stones to open only the vanilla canned food.

If you have more than one required item in your inventory than the following order of selection is applied:

  1. Can Opener;
  2. Kitchen knife (no need to risk damaging a better weapon);
  3. Hunting knife;
  4. Stone (why risk hurting yourself? It’s only added for the realism™ anyway).

Includes 14 recipes for 11 canned food items:

  • Canned Beans
  • Canned Bolognese
  • Canned Carrots
  • Canned Chili
  • Canned Corn
  • Canned Mushroom Soup
  • Canned Peas
  • Canned Potato
  • Canned Soup
  • Canned Tomato
  • Dog Food

No translation needed: the mod uses the same recipe names as the vanilla ones.
