Martian Ice Melt
v2.2 – Sept 9th, 2021
Picard Patch Compatible
Martian Ice Melt replenishes your water deposits on Mars every time a cold wave defrosts and the surface ice melts.
Optionally team this mod with Martian Thermostat
Features
- Replenishes water deposits based on cold wave length, strength and type. See developer notes on how it works.
- Shows you statistics in the water deposits’ information panel.
- Cycle between visible water deposits by clicking the information panel.
- Restores depleted deposits with ice melt.
Depleted Deposits
Martian Ice Melt now restores depleted deposits with the Ice Melt amount.
If you have extractors sitting on top of a depleted deposits what you can do is turn them off instead of demolishing them.
After the a Cold Wave the deposit will be restored with the ice melt quantity and you can turn your extractors back on.
Note: If your deposits were already depleted before this update, Martian Ice Melt does not know about them and cannot restore them.
Only deposits that get depleted after this update are tracked.
In the game, the water deposits are finite, yet every time a cold wave happens, mounds of ice and frost engulf the planet, presumably due to moisture from the atmosphere, but the ice melt disappears after the cold wave ends.
This mod adds a new game mechanic to cold waves that causes defrosted and melted H20 to replenish all water deposits.
The amount is based on the cold wave type, length of cold wave, and strength intensity of the cold wave.
There is no free water with this mod.
Each map location has hard coded cold wave data associated with it.
The following chart shows cold wave min/max duration as well as strength of all the possible cold waves.
The strength correlates to the four boxes of cold wave on the map location when selecting a colony location.
To calculate how much ice melt you will receive when a cold wave is over the following calculation is used per water deposit:
Amount of water used times strength divided by the duration of the cold wave in relation to the maximum cold wave possible on that map.
Using this method and the chart below you can judge that playing game rule "Winter is Coming" can potentially refill to capacity all of your deposits.
The lower the cold wave strength the less ice melt you can potentially gain back.
If your deposits are at maximum or the amount of ice melt would put you past the maximum you will only get the maximum capacity of each deposit, no more, and the statistics will reflect this.
Example:
You are playing a cold map strength 4.
You used 1000 units of a 2000 unit deposit.
The cold wave lasted 3 Sols out of a possible 6.25 sols.
That is about 50% of the maximum duration.
You should receive, in ice melt, about 50% of the water you used.
(Water Used * Strength (4 = 1x)) * relative duration
If the strength was a level 2 then the following calculation would have been used:
(Water Used * Strength (2 = 0.5x)) * relative duration
Cold wave ranges from maps:
Duration Min / Max / Strength
1.04 / 3.13 / 1 – Very low
1.46 / 2.08 / 2 – Low
2.08 / 3.33 / 3 – High
2.92 / 6.25 / 4 – Very High
5.00 / 6.67 / 4 – Gamerule Winter is Coming
