Youmu is a half-human master swordsman from the Touhou Project series who fights in tandem with her phantom-half, affectionately dubbed Myon. Rush down your opponent, send Myon flying at them, and you’re sure to make them sorry.
Up Special: Medium’s Bind
Youmu readies up briefly, commanding Myon to fire in the direction your analog stick is facing. Holding the special button will allow Youmu to dash to Myon’s location. If you hit an opponent with Myon, it will attach and orbit them, allowing you to use the second neutral special or dash to them. Pressing shield in flight will cancel the move and allow you to act immediately.
Neutral Special 1: Spirit Wall
When Youmu’s phantom-half is still following her, neutral special will cause her to fire 3 spirit arrows which gradually accelerate.
Neutral Special 2: Wicked Soul
This move can only be used when Myon is orbiting the opponent, via Youmu’s up/down special. Myon will instantly spin around and fire spirit arrows in a circle next to them, causing them to be stunned if they are in hitstun.
Side Special: Heart Carving Cut
Youmu uses the Roukanken to execute a low slash, travelling a fair distance in a short amount of time. Restores Youmu’s double jump upon hit as well as having greatly reduced end-lag.
Deals heavy knockback and damage if she hits an enemy as soon as she dashes.
Down Special: Intolerant Avici & Wild Throw
Youmu breaks her stance and attempts to grab the opponent. On success, you can either press forward or back to initiate a throw.
– Her forward throw is Intolerant Avici, in which she kicks the opponent and launches Myon at them, attaching itself. If Myon was already orbiting them, it will automatically use Wicked Soul and stun them.
– Her back throw is Wild Throw, in which she disregards all notions of honourable swordsmanship and savagely throws them at the ground behind her. Deals great damage and sends them up with a fixed amount of knockback, allowing for followups even at high percents.
Youmu only has one grab in the air, which is similar to her grounded forward throw.
Tips (as seen in the game’s info menu + some extras)
- Myon will follow the opponent if they are hit with Youmu’s U-Special or D-Special, allowing for combo extensions with N-Special. It will stop following if Youmu is damaged for more than 6%.
- All tilts cancel into U-Special.
- You can recall Myon with Parry + Special or taunting in the air.
- Youmu can follow up on certain attacks such as F-Air and D-Air by pressing the attack button again.
- The startup of Youmu’s 2nd D-Air can be cancelled into special moves.
- You can vary the range of F-Strong by holding up or down. Doing this will omit the first hit.
- With Myon orbiting an opponent, pressing N-Special and then quickly flicking a direction will allow you to buffer Wicked Soul and any special move at the same time.
- A Judgement Slash can be performed only after hitting the opponent with most grounded attacks by pressing Special/Heavy at the moment Youmu sheathes her sword. The window for this lasts as long as the scabbard flash. A True Judgement Cut is performed instead if Myon is attached to the opponent. An imperfect version occurs if the enemy is not in hitstun.
