The Construct
Adds a new character to the game, complete with 100+ cards, 10+ relics, and 2 new potions – with some of the relics and potions (optionally) being available to all characters.
A robotic guardian abandoned by its creators, the Construct seeks to take control of the Spire for itself. Thematically, it’s a mix of the many robotic enemies you’ve already encountered in the Spire, and uses familiar abilities like Mode Shift, Stasis, and its own take on the Hyper Beam to vanquish its foes.
The Construct’s main strength is versatility – cards with the Cycle keyword will automatically discard themselves and redraw if you can’t make use of them. Combine this with Mode Shift cards that allow you to alter your Strength and Dexterity on the fly, and you can ensure you always have the right tools for the job.
There’s more to Cycle than just controlling your hand, though – make use of Cores that give you bonus effects whenever they cycle, or set up an Autoturret or Point Defense grid to turn cycling into free damage and block. Construct cards all work together in interesting ways, and you’ll often find that playing one seemingly innocuous card can lead to a chain of destruction.
Once you’ve figured out the main mechanics and played through a few runs, you’ll start unlocking new options. An alternative starter relic that allows you to turn ANY card into a win condition, and a 15-card mini-expansion with a dangerous new Overheat mechanic, await those who seek to master the Construct.
This character is meant to feel as close to an official character as possible, with multiple potential deck archetypes and rewarding interactions between cards. It’s also meant to be an accessible introduction to modded characters, building largely off of base-game mechanics with a focus on keeping card wording simple, consistent and understandable.
Of course, balance is an ongoing process, so expect many things to change over time. On that note, please let me know if you have any feedback on the mod or happen to find any bugs!
