Phantom Phixers – An S&S Expansion
There’s a new mod in town for 1970s-1990s Phantom Phixers! You can find it here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3006092207
OG-107 uniform, United States Air Force. Suit up, Zoomie Flyboy, and get your Wingnut friends down to the hangar and start turnin’ wrenches.
Or maybe you wanna get your thrills, troop? Hop from a few planes while in flight? Wear your jump boots back on the block when you’re back in the world? Well, if you finish jump school, you better wear your Silver Wings on your chest. OG-107 Uniform, United States Army, accouterments courtesy of US Army Airborne School and US Army Air Assault School.
But what about you, Marvin the ARVN? Are you gonna make US fight YOUR war for you? Get your gear, and get suited up to fight the traitors to Vietnam, Republic of. OG-107 Uniform, Q.L.V.N.C.H.
Or maybe you’re more into swabbing decks? Have you checked the bulkheads? Scrubbed the head? Hot swapped racks with your mate? Dungaree, United States Navy.
Listen up, devil dawg! I heard you took your shelter half to a Mama-San in Saigon and got a real pretty uniform made up. You know that thing’s waterproof, right? You’re gonna sweat up a storm! Oh, and that shelter half is coming out of your pay. You’re lucky the CO didn’t think it rated an NJP. OG-107 Uniform, United States Marine Corps.
This mod is an extension of the S&S mod (unofficial, but assisted by the original team). It contains unit patches, ranks, and retextures of uniforms to be hyper-accurate to the early stages of the Vietnam War. The mod currently supports uniforms for the following factions:
US Army (1964-1966)
US Air Force (1964-1968)
US Navy (1964-1973)
US Marine Corps (1964-1966)
Army of the Republic of Vietnam (1960-1967)
Vietnamese Air Force (1963-1968)
Royal Thai Army Volunteer Force (1967-1975)
Republic of Korea Marine Corps (1965-1967)
Republic of Vietnam Marine Division (1965-1973)
Philippines Civic Action Group- Vietnam (1964-1973)
The mod is compatible with the Eden ranks system implemented in S&S, and contains variants of the uniforms with various skill badges.
I have done many retextures of the S&S uniforms to represent early Vietnam War uniforms more accurately. I have many, and I intend to make many more. However, coding config files is a bit difficult for me, and is rather time consuming. Hopefully, the mod will eventually include the following alongside the current Air Force uniforms:
– Extended ranks to be historically accurate to various specialty fields and nations
– USAF Tropical Combat Uniforms
– Subdued Ranks and Insignia
– Khmer Republic Army Uniforms
– Royal Lao Army Uniforms (Require reference photos and/or example pieces)
– French Army/Foreign Legion Lizard Uniforms
The F-4 Phantom II, workhorse fighter for the US Air Force, US Navy, and US Marines during the Vietnam Era has a strong culture among its pilots and maintainers. This culture often involves replacing F’s with "Ph," and therefore, F-4 Mechanics were known as "Phantom Phixers." The original intent of this mod was to only add Air Force and Navy uniforms, but expanded while in the concept phase.
In order to fix some pathing, but not add dependencies, some files for this mod were copied from US General Equipment and Accessories.
If you like to combine the two mods, you have the option of deleting "simc_uaf_44.pbo" and "simc_mc_44.pbo" from the mod folder to resolve the file conflicts, but be aware that the mod will become dependent on US:GEAr if you choose to do so.
Alternatively, you may find that loading US:GEAr AFTER Phantom Phixers fixes the issue, as it has for myself.
I’m trying this new thing where I provide updates on my current projects on Discord.
