French Tirailleurs – 1914 [PGW Minipack]
Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité
This is the first of two minipacks I intend to make for the the Western Front in 1914, the French Tirailleurs algériens and sénégalais. Unlike some units in the French Army such as the Zouaves, which were largely made up of native French men despite their African origins and dress, tirailleur troops (at least of these two types; there were tirailleurs from French Indochina, for example) were almost entirely made up of recruits from North, Central, and West Africa. Many of these troops were called up to France in their spiffy uniforms when war broke out. However, as winter approached with no end to the war in sight, it was realized that these uniforms would not be enough, and so they were hastily outfitted with standard coats and trousers (the trousers here being secondary corduroy trousers also commonly seen among French infantrymen before they were issued horizon-blue uniforms).
PRETTY IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS PROJECT’S SKINS, OR AT LEAST SKINS MADE BY ME: I’m sure many of you are wondering when I’ll do skins from later on in the war, and from different theaters, and all that. I can assure you, I do plan on doing them, but in a specific order. First, I’m doing the Western Front in 1914. After that it’s the Western Front in 1915, then 1916, etc. etc. until I’ve completed all the skins I want to do for the Western Front. After that I’ll move onto another front, say, the Eastern Front, and do the skins there starting from 1914 and work my way up again. This of course only really applies to skins for the project released by me, as I can’t really control what other people want to make and when they want to release it, but I just thought I should put this down here since a lot of people have been asking.
