Gun Culture & Ownership
This mod allows pops to be able to purchase and own guns, for self protection, for hunting, etc. It does this by adding a new needs category called "Security." There are two goods in this category, small arms and ammunition.
Pops of wealth level 10 and up have this need (to simulate the lack of security need for those that don’t have much to lose, nor money to spend on weapons, and to avoid small-arms and ammunition being purchased for slaves). As their wealth grows their need for more ‘Security’ grows as well. This simulates the need of rich pops for guards, bodyguards, etc.
The following cultures are given the small arms obsession:
North German (also gets ‘meat’ obsession)
South German (also gets ‘meat’ obsession)
Polish
Czech
Swiss
French
English
Scottish
Welsh
Irish
Dixie
Yankee
Mexican
Australian
Anglo-Canadian
Franco-Canadian
English, Scottish, Irish (due to a suggestion in comments)
Boer
Armenian
Most of Iberian Peninsula cultures (as it seems if nothing else, there is a strong gun culture due to hunting)
Most Nordic Cultures (same reason as Iberian cultures)
Most Balkan cultures – Since Balkan was known as the powder keg of Europe in the era the game encompasses. The strong gun culture is still present in the Balkans. Serb culture also gets meat obsession.
Most Muslim cultures (Unsure if this is realistic, for instance are Muslim cultures in South-East Asia realistically suppose to have this obsession? Let me know what you think.
Also not sure if I should add small arms obsession to the Japanese culture. After all they did have a strong warrior culture, but I don’t know if this also means gun culture in the time period the game portrays.
The reason why some cultures like North and South-German get the small arms obsession, as well as French and Polish, is because it was accurate in the time period of Victoria 3. Swiss have a gun culture to this day.
And on the North American continent the settlers were encouraged to own guns in order to protect their properties. Same goes for the Boer.

This mod also adds obsession for coffee & tobacco to most Balkan cultures as it is historically accurate. The reason for this is because this mod is part of a larger Balkan overhaul I’m working on.
COMPATABILITY
The mod is not compatible with mods that alter the cultures listed above, and needs a compatibility patch to work with those mods. It will also not work with mods that add new pop consumption goods.
A compatch is available for the Newspapers & Magazines mod. The name of the compatch is GC&O + N&M COMPATCH.
