Use his Shadow Core and rapid fast attacks to silence your foes!
Land a counter attack with his Down Special to gain access to Nox’s Swift Mode, a state that amplifies his specials and increases his speed, damage output, and knockback power for the next 10 seconds!

Who is Nox?

Nox is the protagonist and player character in Light Fall, a 2D platformer centered around speedrunning created by Bishop Games. Nox is one of Numbra’s five Celestial Gods, each wields their own Divine Artifacts. Nox’s Divine Artifact is his Shadow Core, a cube-shaped device that acts as both a makeshift platform, and a powerful weapon.

In Rivals of Aether, Nox is a speedy rushdown character. Nox normally does not do too much in terms of combat in Light Fall, but he has a lot more fight in him this time around in Rivals! His Specials and Strongs largely utilize his Shadow Core, with the exception of Down Special. His Neutral & Up Specials are directly inspired by certain gameplay mechanics from Light Fall.

Nox’s Moveset

Normals:

Jab: Guardian’s Combo – A simple 1-2-3 jab combo that does a moderate amount of damage.

Forward Tilt: Crystal Clap – A clapping attack that has a sweetspot towards the tip of the clap.

Down Tilt: Descending Slam – Nox steps forward and slams his arm into the ground with full force. This attack is heavily inspired by Nova’s ground slam from MvC3. The move has a sweetspot right where Nox punches the ground. As such, this sweetspot can only hit grounded opponents.

Up Tilt: Abyss Riser – A double overhead juggle attack. This move takes direct inspiration from Falco’s Up Tilt from Brawl and onwards.

Dash Attack: Radiant Crash – Nox lights himself up and bashes into his enemies with a powerful shoulder tackle!

Aerials:

Neutral Air: Shadow Blast – Nox cloaks himself in an orb of darkness that will engulf nearby enemies when it erupts! This is an excellent move for hitfall combos and mix-ups!

Forward Air: Crescent Corkscrew – A spinning attack that allows Nox to pull opponents with him while it’s active. This move can also be used for fast fall dragdown purposes, but be aware that it is techable.

Up Air: Box Cutter – A two hit scissor kicking attack built for speed demons. A great move for racking up and extending ladder combos!

Back Air: Dark Roundhouse – Nox turns himself around to deliver a devastating backwards strike. This is one of Nox’s most powerful aerials, and is an excellent kill move!

Down Air: Lightning Kicks – Nox unleashes a quick barrage of super fast kicks below him. The final hit of this move has a meteor effect, but it isn’t too powerful.

Strongs:

Forward Strong: Shadow Core Burst – Nox Summons the Shadow Core and lets it spin in front of him for a devastating multi-hit strike!

Down Strong: Shadow Core Shuffle – Nox blasts the Shadow Core into the ground on both sides of him, one at a time. This move starts in front of Nox, and is great for ledge-trapping opponents.

Up Strong: Shadow Core Rocket – Nox spins the Shadow Core while covering the area above him. The move is essentially very similar to Forward Strong, but goes above Nox instead of in front of him.

Specials:

Neutral Special: Shadow Core Launch – Nox throws the Shadow Core in a straight line. This projectile is lightning fast, but has a short lifetime and slows down quickly. This move is great for keeping your opponents at a distance, though it has a bit of a cooldown on it. Although the Shadow Core acts a projectile during this move, it cannot be reflected or bashed, but parrying it will put Nox into extended stun.

Forward Special: Shadow Core Trap – This move starts out as a command grab, acting much like Incinceroar’s in terms of it’s movement. If it succeeds, Nox will deliver a finisher with the Shadow Core. If you whiff the move in the air, you will not go into special fall.

Up Special: Shadow Core Guide – Nox briefly transforms into his Shadow Core, allowing him to move freely across the screen slowly for a short period of time. A visual indicator on the Shadow Core itself shows how much time you have left in your flight before going into special fall. Nox will gain Super Armor upon starting the move, but be vulnerable to all attacks quickly afterwards. You can cancel out of this recovery early by pressing either the attack, special, or shield button shortly after startup.

Down Special: Luxanna’s Light – A crushing counter attack, with an even more crushing after effect. During this move, Nox calls on his best friend Luxanna, Numbra’s Goddess of Light. If done correctly, Luxanna will engulf the surrounding area in a ray of light that hits everyone and anyone standing near it. Additionally, she will also grant Nox access to his Swift Mode.

Gimmick: Swift Mode

Nox’s Swift Mode is much like Clairen’s Energy Field, in that it can only be activated after successfully landing a counter-attack with Down Special. Here’s what you need to know about this Gimmick:

Swift Mode:
-Lasts for 10 seconds
-Increases Nox’s overall Speed (at the cost of a slightly reduced jumping height)
-Increases Nox’s Damage & Knockback output on ALL of his attacks
-Indicated by after images and sound effects
-Amplifies the properties of Nox’s Specials (NSPECIAL travels farther, FSPECIAL is quicker, USPECIAL gains hitstun)
-Can be cut short if Nox either gets parried and or loses a stock
-Down Special cannot be used again until the extended cooldown period ends (5 seconds after Swift Mode wears off)

Activate Swift Mode more easily in training mode by holding crouch and pressing taunt!

Extra – Final Smash: Stryx’s Strike – With the Final Smash Buddy active, call upon the power of Stryx, the Last Owl, to deliver a powerful finishing blow to your enemies! Of course, this attack is even more powerful when combined with Swift Mode! Be careful, as this final smash can go offstage and kill you if used recklessly!
