The 30 Floor Gauntlet
Runs in this game have a number of divergent paths – Do you go down the main path or the alt path? Do you go to Cathedral or Sheol? Do you go to The Void via ???, or take your chances with the other floors? – but what if you didn’t have to choose, and could do everything in the same run? This mod makes that idea a reality, taking you down a single path that includes every floor and every story boss, including the Ascent!
- All of the points of divergence are replaced with a single path. E.g. after beating Basement/Cellar/Burning Basement II, you will be taken to Downpour/Dross I, whereas usually you would have a choice between Caves/Catacombs/Flooded Caves I and Downpour/Dross II.
- The alt path no longer requires resources to enter.
- Instead of having a choice between The Polaroid and The Negative when you beat Mom, you will get The Polaroid after beating Mom in The Depths, and The Negative after beating Mom in Mausoleum.
- Although fighting Mega Satan is mandatory, there is no need to hunt for the Key Pieces. You will be directly given Key Piece 1 after fighting ???, and Key Piece 2 after fighting The Lamb. (Feel free to go for them anyway if you want their secondary benefits, or to reroll them.)
- Collecting both of the Knife Pieces – on Downpour/Dross II and Mines/Ashpit II respectively – is mandatory. If you fight the boss before retrieving them, the trapdoor to the next floor will not appear, but it will spawn when you come back with the Knife Piece.
- If you destroy the mirror door on Downpour/Dross II before retrieving Knife Piece 1, it will have the same effect from outside the mirror world as it would do from inside the mirror world.
- Quest items such as The Polaroid and Knife Piece 1 cannot be rerolled, destroyed or duplicated, unless you already have them in your inventory. (Key Pieces are fair game.)
- Glowing Hourglass cannot be used if doing so would take you back to the previous floor.
- At various points the level transition will be the Forget Me Now effect instead of usual trapdoor jumping or light ascension. This is either to connect floors which otherwise wouldn’t be connected, or to prevent duplicate floor layouts.
- Boss Rush on Depths/Necropolis/Dank Depths II is mandatory; the trapdoor to the next floor will not spawn until you have beaten it, and the door to Boss Rush will always open regardless of how long you took to get there. By contrast the Boss Rush door on Mausoleum/Gehenna II will never open regardless of how quickly you reach it, even if you use Mama Mega.
- In order to avoid being softlocked by you teleporting out of Boss Rush – or if the items are behind rocks or spikes you can’t get past, or if you just don’t want any of them – a Grab Bag will always be present in the Boss Rush room. Picking up this Grab Bag will not yield any pickups, but it will start the Boss Rush.
- The portal to The Void will never randomly appear. You will be taken there at the appropriate point.
- You cannot use Sacrifice Rooms to skip to Dark Room. After your 11th sacrifice on any given floor, the spikes will disappear.
- If you get to Dark Room with both Key Pieces collected already, you can’t use them to open the door to Mega Satan early. You must still beat The Lamb.
- Dad’s Key cannot be used to open the Mega Satan door.
As this is a Gauntlet, all story bosses, divergences to the alt path and Knife Piece retrieval quests must be done. This means that items which allow you to skip floors work a little differently with this mod enabled, as do extra trapdoors which appear in Dirty Bedrooms, I AM ERROR rooms, Black Markets and Genesis rooms:
- If you’re on the first floor of a 2 floor chapter, We Need To Go Deeper! and the Ehwaz rune will create trapdoors to the next floor as normal, and the special rooms which contain trapdoors will also be as normal.
- If you’re on a floor where you need to divert to the alt path or fight a story boss such as It Lives!, We Need To Go Deeper!/Ehwaz will instead create one crawlspace per floor, and the special rooms will instead give you a crawlspace or a teleporter back to the starting room.
- On Depths/Necropolis/Dank Depths II and Mausoleum/Gehenna II, We Need To Go Deeper!/Ehwaz will only create a crawlspace, but after you’ve beaten Boss Rush and Mom’s Heart respectively, it can create a trapdoor to the next floor.
- On Downpour/Dross II and Mines/Ashpit II, We Need To Go Deeper!/Ehwaz/special rooms will give you trapdoors only after you’ve retrieved the floor’s Knife Piece. Beforehand they will give you crawlspaces/teleporters/nothing as appropriate.
- On Mausoleum/Gehenna I, Downpour/Dross II (post Knife Piece 1) and Mines/Ashpit II (post Knife Piece 2), you can only use We Need To Go Deeper! or Ehwaz to create trapdoors in rooms which don’t already have trapdoors, and can’t have trapdoors/light beams spawned in them by the game (so for example, it wil not work in the final boss room).
- Repentance is required.
- Will not work in Greed Mode, Challenges, or in the "LABY RNTH" special seed.
- You must have unlocked The Polaroid and The Negative, and have beaten Hush 3 times to unlock the alt path.
- If you haven’t unlocked all of the floor variants (Cellar, Flooded Caves, Dross etc.), this mod may take you to them anyway.
- Enabling this mod in the middle of a pre-existing non-Gauntlet run will probably work, but is not recommended.
- With the probable exception of Mega Satan, completion marks can be earned during a Gauntlet, so don’t play with an uncompleted character in an unseeded run if you don’t want to earn those marks.
- Probably goes without saying, but running this at the same time as other mods which affect the order of floors is not recommended.
- If you want to leave behind trinkets to turn into Cracked Keys (or leave behind Boss/Treasure items) in the Ascent, the floors you will revisit are: Mausoleum/Gehenna I, Depths/Necropolis/Dank Depths I, Mines/Ashpit II, Caves/Catacombs/Flooded Caves I, Downpour/Dross II, and Basement/Cellar/Burning Basement I. You also revisit Mausoleum/Gehenna II, but keep in mind that’s the pre-Ascent version, not the pre-Corpse version.
Shout out to my forebear in the "all floors" genre, Every Floor Mode by Nato Potato! A great mod with similar goals to this one, but (I hope) different enough for this town to be big enough for the both of us.
