Light Weight Prototypes
Textures representing the prototype F-16 and F/A-18
The YF-16 was a product designed to meet the requirements of the United States Air Force Light Weight Fighter program . The General Dynamics YF-16 was 1 of 2 designs selected to go into the prototype stage alongside the Northrop YF-17. The YF-16s first flight (Unofficial) took place on January 20th 1974 and originally was supposed to be just a high speed taxi test. The official first flight took place 13 days later on February 2nd 1974. The YF-16 won the fly off and developed into the F-16 Fighting Falcon (Or Viper). This scheme represents the prototype YF-16
The YF-17 didn’t completely lose. The United States Navy grew an interest in it and asked Nothrop to team up with Mcdonnell Douglas to further develop it and make it a carrier capable aircraft. Born from it was the F/A-18 Hornet. The first flight of the F/A-18 took place on November 10th 1978. The scheme in this pack representst the F/A-18 Hornet that flew as the prototype.
