I.N.S.A.S (INDIAN SMALL ARMS SYSTEM)
First of all, Huge thanks to Lordaloa for animating the rifle! It’s sad for the community that you decided to quit modding but it’s also good to see you pursue your dreams of making your own game. Anyway, here’s the description:
Imagine yourself as a country which is surrounded by enemies on all direction but one. To survive you would need to be powerful and self reliant. After years of hard work, you become powerful but you have yet to become self reliant. So you start working hard to become self reliant by deciding to design your very own weapon, except now you fail miserably. This is what happened with India’s first indigenous Infantry Arms Program, INSAS.
INSAS or Indian Small Arms System is a family of infantry arms consisting of an assault rifle, carbine and a light machine gun.
The development of the INSAS assault rifle began in mid-1980s, when the Indian Army released a general staff qualitative requirement for a new assault rifle to replace locally produced licensed copy of the L1A1 self-loading rifles.
After studying a number of designs, the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) in Pune undertook the task to design and develop India’s first assault rifle. The development and user trials of the new rifle – INSAS was completed by 1989 and entered into service in 1990.
Multiple flaws were found in the INSAS Rifle like occasional often serious stoppage, cracking of polymer magazine due to the cold weather and some other reliability issues such as firing in full auto when set for 3 shot burst.. You see, these flaws only happened in colder higher altitude regions.
And Guess what? Where’s most of the enemies of India reside in? In colder higher altitude regions! So even with over a million of these weapons produced. It is now being replaced with AK-203 from Russia and SiG 716 DMR from USA.
