ZPU-1 [Gredwitch Emplacement Base]
In 1947, according to the TTT of the GAU, the development of the ZPU-1, an installation using one 14.5 mm machine gun of S. V. Vladimirova, began at plant No. 2.
Two projects were developed. The project of G. F. Shafirov was recognized as the best. However, the prototype of the ZPU-1, manufactured according to this project, did not withstand field tests.
In March 1948, four more ZPU-1 projects were considered: two of them were developed by G. F. Shafirov and I. S. Leshchinsky, the other two by E. D. Vodopyanov and E. K. Rachinsky. At the design stage, the project of E. D. Vodopyanov and E. K. Rachinsky was recognized as the best.
In 1948, a technical design of the installation was developed and a prototype was created. In the same year, the sample passed field and military tests.
The installation was put into service in 1949, and in the same year the serial production of the ZPU-1 was started.
