Leugi’s Byzantine Harald Hardrada
Adds Harald Hardrada as an alternative leader for Byzantium! Requires Gathering Storm, New Frontier Pass and the Leader Pass.
It has become a personal post-april fools tradition for me to make a leader that didn’t literally "rule" the nation they represent but having them is still fun and interesting for Civ’s inherent "what if" theme.
This year of course after having Varangian Harald Hardrada, my first thought was to make a Byzantine Harald. Given that Harald worked so much alongside the nobility of Constantinople, it sure makes for a cool what-if scenario. And of course, seeing Harald dressed in purple and with a more mask-like Varangian helm is part of the fun.
What is interesting is that I made it keep regular Harald’s ability because it works so nice to have the Longship alongside the Dromon. However, if you would rather have the new Varangian Guard ability, there is an option at the Setup menu. This option also gives Harald the Tagma unique unit which turns him into a full-on Varangian leader.
Pick whichever Harald you prefer for whatever you need. Regular Harald as a Byzantine leader is great for an Isles map, but if you are playing on Lakes I definitely recommend using the alternative ability with the Tagma unique unit.

For the record, the art edit is 2D, we can’t edit Leader Pass models and I wanted a quick adjustment for this tbh. I personally prefer having a cool difference even if static.
