Description:
About

Historical Multiplayer Series (HMPS) for Victoria 3 is a vanilla based mod with the goal of creating interesting and competitive multiplayer games by increasing the challenge and replicating notable historical dynamics and trends of the period.

Economic growth is less straightforward while there are now different requirements for growth. Nations that are too strong in vanilla such as Austria and China have been weakened to represent historic dynamics. Flavor that improves game health has been added to create more dynamic games, such as the European Potato Blight of 1844 or the Hungarian Revolt. Game mechanics that were too easy or ahistorical, such as culture acceptance, have been adjusted to reflect the reality of the time.

This mod is also not supposed to have every country equally viable. Some countries are worse than others and, in an MP game, will never realistically catch up to the great powers economically (though you can get close to catching up militarily). This is intended to represent historical dynamics rather than having an arcade-style game where countries differ only in their flavor and flag. Furthermore, the greater difficulty means there is a much greater skill impact on developmental speed.

While the mod works fine and is enjoyable in single player, the design is entirely with MP in mind.

  • Navies require fuel
  • PM adjustments, oil rebalanced for qualification changes and certain good production like meat is buffed
  • Open market is far harsher
  • Major powers cannot be subjects and subjects cannot have interests
  • Tech rebalancing, some bad techs are merged, MAPI is now spread out to more techs
  • Bad states (New England for instance) are combined to be more fun for MP

Noob Traps, Tips, and Meta:
  • If you fully occupy a nation, their war exhaustion will tick down rapidly.
  • You get a small fraction of qualifications for unaccepted cultures, so it is typically not worth heavily industrializing places whose culture you do not accept
  • You get machinists at 25% Education Level and engineers at 60% Education Level (We renamed literacy to Education Level to be more accurate)
  • You should always make sure you have enough Universities for your Education Level – you will likely start at around half of your cap
  • Getting public education ASAP is critical, though any education reform is better than none.
  • Authority is more useful and authoritarianism has been buffed. Always use all your authority.
  • Use the high pop assimilation option in the game rules for improved performance
