Byzantium – Gemistos Plethon
Gemistos Plethon was a Byzantine Scholar and Philosopher, living from 1355 all the way to 1454, celebrated as both a virtuous advisor and an early progenitor of the Renaissance. This event chain is a whatif where the Emperors of Byzantium call upon his advice once again, and the influence of the man himself and his scholars and admirers can foster new modes of thought, and if you go along far enough you may come around to his final and most controversial idea: Reviving Hellenic Worship of the Olympian Gods.
Disclaimer: There is no actual Hellenic religion in this mod, it’s all about the influence and growth of Plethonism, Hellenism may be its own thing at a later time. Feel free to plug in your own version of Hellenism into the final event, and please let me know if the events and decisions feel appropriately balanced.
