more impactful battle terrain
are you tired of terrain having a tiny effect on battles? wish that winters were the brutal scourge of armies foolish enough to campaign during them as they were in reality? wish that you were rewarded for designing your men at arms composition around the terrain of your home region or the one you are invading?
then this mod is for you
WHAT IT DOES:
this mod makes terrain advantage penalties, combat width, movement speed, and supply limit factors several times more powerful then their vanilla effects. marching through the alps will be a slow, supply consuming affair, but one you may be risking to brave if you have a smaller army, as if the enemy engages you there, they will not only have to deal with a massive advantage penalty, but their army wont be able to bring its full force to bear, due to the nature of the terrain.
WINTERS:
winters are brutal, and will quickly claim the lives of most of your army on the march, and makes battles far more deadly (up to 80% of casualties are garunteed fatal during harsh winters), as wounded men freeze to death as the battle rages on, and the cold causes the wounded to succumb to sickness and infection. winter also affects army’s combat stats much more, making pursuing armies more difficult due to the weather, and making crossbows far less effective due to the strings becoming damp (as was seen during the battle of crecy during the hundred years war).
EFFECTS ON MEN AT ARMS:
as was mentioned with winters, specific men at arms will be massivly effected by terrain as well as weather. light infantry will be much more useful in a forest or tiaga, where they can hide in the trees and javlin their enemies from the flank, whereas cavalry will dominate the open plains but suffer heavily in wetlands. the effects are more complex then "x unit is 100% better in certian terrain"., as archers do more damage in open terrain, due to the lack of enemy cover, but have less protection then if the fight in the forest, where there is more cover for both them and the enemy.
I have implimented these changes in my arquebus plus mod, making gunpowder far less effective in winter, and will be making this compatible with that mod in its entirety soon. I am still balancing the mod as it is early on, so some stuff may be wildly unbalanced, please let me know about balance issues or other suggestions in the comments to help improve the mod
FUTURE PLANS:
improve cultural unit bonuses in terrain of their region
impliment this with a battle tactics mod I am planning
potential compatch with cultural armies pack (will be hell to do bc that mod has like 5 morbillion men at arms but I might get around to it)
