United Systems Expansion: Planets Addon
Requires the base mod "United Systems Expansion" otherwise this mod will not work and may potentially crash your universe.
The US.E Planets addon adds in 11 planets of varying usefulness. Based on realistic* depictions, it aims to fill in the ironic gap of nobody making the most common, boring planets of the universe.
Do note that this mod was NOT designed for vanilla-styled tier progression. Refer to the spawn list below.
The planet-unique dungeons that will spawn in are part of the US.E story and an entire set of lore is located on these planets (location context). As well as lore, there also includes trading mechanics and weapons only obtainable by special gun dealers. Other benefits is the relative safety of real, barren worlds which are ripe for stripmining.
– Lifeless, desolate rocks flying through the endless void. Comes in 4 varieties and is a realistic depiction of true Barren Planets with no real purpose other than for mining. Colonies may exist, which are marked by a [C].
– A contested planet between the Loyalists and Rebels. Once a thriving industrial city planet now reduced to rubble. The planet is full of soldiers but ripe for looting, providing a good way to earn money via combat.
– A habitable planet undergoing some sort of Ice Age. Signs of life are rare and massive storms can sweep the surface. Nothing more than a frozen wasteland where only the hardiest of people remain.
– A planet for the dead. Tombs litter the planet surface and the remains of the deceased are all too common here.
– An Earth-like planet with an atmosphere suitable for almost all life. The same as a Garden planet but with unique "hunted by day" mechanics and city lights during the night. Unlike CityBound, the planet is Tier 6 with various enemies actively hunting the player during the day.
– Same as Colonized Lush, except it’s more barren, Tier 1 and noone is actively hunting you.
– Infested by the Ruin Remnants, nothing here is of use other than the constant orbital bombardment from various ships.
– A planet filled with extreme volcanic activity as well as extreme pressure, acidic weather and vaporizing heat. Rather than of being any actual use, it exists purely for the same reason they exist in reality.

Q: This mod seems awfully small.
A: Because all this does is activate the spawning for planets. The actual bulk of content is in the main mod. This is done so players have a choice whether they want to use the base mod as is or with this addon.
Q: The planets aren’t spawning!
A: You need to travel to purely new star systems for them to generate.
Q: When I make a new character it take a long time to find a starting world.
A: This mod adds the planets to nearly every tier’s spawnpool (including T1) so chances of finding a normal garden world is small. This is just how generation and maths works. If you don’t believe me then scroll down to my explanation on how maths works.
Q: If you know that adding these planets into T1 will increase loading times, why do it?
A: I’m not going to restrict my immersion and realism because some people don’t understand what chance is. If you want to generate and play faster, generate a universe normally THEN install this mod so that newly generated systems spawn with the custom planets.
Q: This is incompatible with Frackin Universe!
A: No it’s not.
Q: Barrens are too common! Just combine the 4 barrens into 1 planet with subbiomes!
A: Planets don’t normally have ice plains, then suddenly turn into scorching sand dunes.
– Barren Planets – They can be found literally at any tier in any position.
– Dense – Ditto.
– Wartorn – Ditto
– Tomb – Ditto
– Colonized – Ditto
– Infested – Tier 5-6
All of these can be found as moons so technically any tier but only as moons. Example is that only full planetary bodies of Infested Planets will spawn in Tier 5-6.
– Barren Planets – Same as above. Literally in any position. Barren Freeze is the only exception. That spawns in colder areas.
– Dense – Hotter areas, typically in the habitable zone or closer to the local star.
– Wartorn – Generally desert-like conditions at the habitable zone.
– Frosted – Habitable zone all the way out to the edge of the system.
– Tomb – Mild habitable conditions at any survivable temperature.
– Colonized – Mild habitable conditions leaning towards the more comfortable temperatures.
– Infested – Planets that are uncomfortably hot are this.
ffs
People, just like Frackin’ universe it adds in ALOT of planets to a spawnpool. Here’s the bloody way it works.
Starter System Parameters: Forest + Desert + Garden + Gentle-Star type.
The game searches for a system with ATLEAST these 3 planets.
Now since these new planets can spawn with these additional planets, it adds their value to a spawnpool.
Systems: Vanilla + Values of other mods (US.E:P = 9)
Therefore, it’s BASIC maths. If you have a 1/6 chance of finding a red ball out of various other colors, then lets say add in 9 more balls other than red then that chance of finding a red ball becomes 1/15. This is a small-scale analogy and the chance of 1/x is having value x being of significantly higher value due to the other planets of the main game.
This is not the mod’s fault. It’s literally maths. Bk3000 explains it better.

By default Starbound looks for a system that has a small "garden" (aka lush) planet, a "desert" planet, and a "forest" planet. You’ll of course start on the "garden" planet of course.
Here’s the problem. You start using mods that add more planet types, and the mathematical chance any given planet is a "garden", "desert", or "forest" decrease. The odds that any particular system contains all 3 (and the "garden" needs to be small) decrease dramatically. Starbound keeps looking and looking for a matching system. Generating and rejecting system after system. So the more planet types you add, the time it takes to find an appropriate system goes up A LOT. People may even begin to think Starbound – or a particular mod – are broken. That isn’t the case… it is just taking a really long time! – Bk3000
