Alco PA – Nickel Plate Road
This mod adds an Alco PA/PB with New York, Chicago & St. Louis (Nickel Plate Road) livery. This is a repaint of the generic Alco PA available in-game.
The Alco PA was a diesel passenger locomotive built in the United States by American Locomotive Company (ALCO) and General Electric between June 1946 and December 1953. The Alco PB was a cabless booster unit that could be added to provide extra power.
The New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad (‘Nickel Plate Road’) operated in the mid-central United States. The nickname ‘Nickel Plate Road’ is believed to have derived from a newspaper article in 1881. The railroad adopted the name, often displaying it more prominately than the official name. On October 16, 1964, the railroad merged with the Norfolk & Western.
In 1947, the railroad ordered 11 Alco PA-1’s. All were eventually sold back to Alco in November 1961, but most were leased back into 1962.
