FS Carrozze doppio piano ‘Casaralta’

Con la crescita del pendolarismo, nel corso degli anni 70, le FS si trovarono fortemente impreparate a causa del grosso volume di viaggiatori, concentrati nelle tratte urbane. Da questa necessità nacque l’esigenza di acquistare carrozze doppio piano, per massimizzare le capacità dei treni destinati al servizio metropolitano. Suddivise in diverse ordini, le officine bolognesi Casaralta consegnarono, alle fs, le carrozze doppio piano tipo Be (costruite su licenza della CIMT Lorraine, quindi sostanzialmente delle vetture francesi).
Nonostante la stazza imponente di tali vetture, esse mantenevano la massa totale contenuta in 42t (addirittura minore di altre carrozze monopiano in circolazione in quello stesso periodo). Gli interni erano spartani e, per la prima volta, venne introdotto il sedile a 3 posti (locato nel piano inferiore della vettura), che consentiva di ottenere moduli a 10 posti.
Le carrozze casaralta FS sono ufficialmente state tolte dalla circolazione nel 2020.
Effettuano ancora servizio le vetture degli operatori Trenord ed FSE.

During the 70s, commuting services growth a lot due to passengers demand. The FS was strongly unprepared due to the large volume of travelers, concentrated in urban routes. This necessity resulted in the purchase of double-decker carriages, to maximize the capacities of the trains destined for the metropolitan service. Divided into several orders, the Casaralta workshops delivered, to the FS, the double-decker carriages type Be (built under license from CIMT Lorraine, therefore essentially French cars).
Despite the dimension of these cars, they kept the total mass contained in 42t (even less than other single-deck carriages in circulation in that same period). The interiors were spartan and, for the first time, the 3-seater seat was introduced (located in the lower floor of the car), which allowed for 10-seater modules.
The casaralta FS carriages were officially removed from circulation in 2020.
The same waggons, operated by Trenord and FSE, are still in service.
