From her introduction in 1952 she has a quiet career only having minor incidents occurring.
She proved to be very popular and she was always the favorite over her running mate, as people preferred the lavish and light interior of the Sapelo compared to the more “Old Fashioned” style of her running mate.
By 1975 J&R sold her due to plummeting profits from air travel. She was sold to the Cunard Line and renamed, Cunard Symphony.
In 1982 she suffers a fire in the second funnel, J&R yet again purchase her, but this time she has a different profile of only a forward funnel, even with modernization attempts she is a failure for the line and she is sold one year later to the Chandris line staying with them until 1991.
She is purchased by a entrepreneur from New York and is turned into a floating restaurant.
In 1995 she detached from her mooring cables and grounded at the other side of the Hudson River, she is re-floated and taken to the breakers.
But her luck hadn’t yet run out and in 2008 she is purchased by the The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum and is restored back to what she was originally like.
