Ring Alliance Navy Skiff
A small transport skiff that’s been militarized and brought into service. Additional reinforcements allow it to traverse Saturn’s ring plane for prolonged periods of time without suffering damage, but the ship is intended to perform mission activities primarily around natural satellites and other points of interest.
It’s not very effective in combat, bearing only a remote-operated rotary cannon and four payload hardpoints. The skiff is meant to function as a tender or supplementary weapons platform when in a fleet, but it’s also used for pirate hunting and contraband inspections.
The main drive is a solid-core nuclear thermal rocket. Densified hydrogen is superheated by the fission core and accelerated by an electric booster stage before exiting the reaction chamber, increasing exhaust velocity. This makes the ship capable of quick interlunar and possibly interplanetary travel, and it can easily catch up to any enemy spacecraft which use traditional chemical engines.
The propellant is very flammable, so avoid getting hit in the pressurized fuel tank (not like the ship can survive being hit anywhere else).
