The Zvezden Federation is a large collection of smaller communist states, notable for its odd military setup; a large number of penal units known as "linefighters" equipped with basic and often obsolescent equipment, and more elite "specialists" who join the military willingly and receive much better, top of the line equipment and are used for primarily for breakthrough and combat engineering.
