Research Overflow & Options System
This mod causes research points to overflow after completing research, and gives players some options to fine-tune their game’s research rate mechanics.
The Research Overflow & Options System mod (ROS) implements three features:
- Overflow Research: When a technology finishes researching, excess research overflows into the faction’s next technology research.
- New Technology Screen UI elements: The technology UI screen will now display some additional useful information, such as how much total research rate each technology requires (and not just how many turns it’ll take). This is only available in singleplayer for now, until I work out the multiplayer kinks.
- Research options: When using the Mod Configuration Tool (MCT), this mod creates optional research features affecting all factions. Increase or decrease the base research rate, grant a flat percentage to all research, and more! Using these options will have a dramatic effect on game balance.
This mod was primarily created for the Research Overflow mechanic, and I imagine most people just want that. But it will affect balance, so I created the Research Options so you can change it as you see fit.
Overflow more or less ensures you will always be able to spend all of your Research Rate, without any disappearing into the void. So long as you’re researching something anyway!
This also affects all AI factions, so they should hopefully make it through the tech tree as fast as a human.
I.e. A faction has 110% research rate in a turn, and researches a 1-turn technology (effectively only requiring 100% research rate to complete).
- Without this mod, the extra 10% disappears.
- With this mod, the extra 10% appears on your next turn, increasing the research rate to 120% temporarily.
All factions will research everything a little bit faster, but only because they won’t waste as much research.
- This mod requires a new save to function. The mod will auto-disable if you attempt to use it in an existing save file, and give you a pesky warning until you disable the mod.
- This mod is script-based, and thus should be fully mod-compatible with all other mods, including mods adding or changing technologies.
- This mod will work without being updated. However, I’ll try and update anyway just in case.
- ROS does not require any mods to work. However, if you wish to fine-tune the overflow research mechanic or access the research options, then you will need the Mod Configuration Tool. Click the button below to get it!
For anyone that needs an older version of ROS, or doesn’t use Steam, here’s a link with the versions in it[www.dropbox.com]!
- Special thanks to Groove Wizard for making MCT.
Thanks for viewing my mod! Let me know if you encounter any bugs. I’m not sure if multiplayer works, but I think it should.
