Description:

Italia Reborn is a mod that aims to increase the cultural immersion and the flavorization of Italy. Most of the chanes are only graphical, and only a small amount make almost irrelevant changes to the gameplay.

At the moment, the mod only focuses on the 1066 start date, and it isn’t optimized for 867. It isn’t fully compatible with other mods, as it touches some game files. Below is a list of the full changes.

== Changes (1066 start date) ==
Sicily:
• Changed the name of Ali “Benavert”, Sheikh of Sarqusa, to “ibn Abbad” (He was only known by his patronymic, his personal name is not known. Looking forward to change this cause of patronymic-gore)
• Changed the name of Najib ibn Hamud, Sheikh of Qasyrana, to “Hamud” (Historical name, don’t know why paradox invented one)
• Changed the name of Hamud ibn Al-Hawas, father of Najib, to “Ali” (Historical name, don’t know why paradox invented one) and gave him the nickname “Belchamedus” (Normans referred to him as that)
• Renamed the County of Messina to County of Sicily (Historical)
• Changed the name of the male ruler of the County of Sicily from Count to Grand Count. (Historical)
• Changed the name of the male ruler of the Duchy of Sicily from Duke to Lord. (Historical)

Duchy of Apulia and vassals:
• Changed the nickname of Robert de Hauteville, Duke of Apulia from “the Fox” to “Guiscard” (Historical)
• Removed the son-mother relationship beetween Geoffrey de Conversano, Count of Bari and Emma de Hauteville (incorrect identification, in reality Emma de Hauteville was the mother of a different Count Geoffrey not present in the game)
• Changed the House of Lecce to be a sub-house of the Hauteville dynasty (Historical, Paradox probably didn’t do this because the exact relationship beetween Geoffrey, Count of Lecce, and Robert, Duke of Apulia, is not known)
• Frenchized the name of Geoffrey, Steward and Father of Count Robert of Lanciano, to Godefroi (Historical)

Other southern-Italian states:
• Italianized the name of Gisulf II, Prince of Salerno, to Gisulfo
• Italianized the name of Landolf VI, Duke of Benevento, to Landolfo.
• Changed the Duchy of Benevento, ruled by a Duke and a Duchess, to the Principality of Benevento, ruled by a Prince and a Princess. (Historical)
• Changed the Duchy of Capua, ruled by a Duke and a Duchess, to the Principality of Capua, ruled by a Prince and a Princess. (Historical)
• Changed the name of the dynasty of Sergios V, count of Napoli, from Spartenos to Sergii (Historical)

Duchy of Tuscany and vassals:
• Italianized the name of Matilda di Canossa, Duchess of Tuscany, to Matilde, and gave her the nickname “the Great Countess” (Historical)
• Changed the Duchy of Tuscany, ruled by a Duke and a Duchess, to the Margraviate of Tuscany, ruled by a Margrave and a Margravine. (Historical)
• Replaced feudal government with theocracy government in the county of Lucca. (Historical. Note that in reality, at the time, the Pope himself controlled Lucca, and that Anselmo, the in-game ruler, became his successor only in 1072 and was actually Anselmo II, because the Pope’s personal name was Anselmo. This wasn’t changed in the game due to gameplay reasons)
• Changed the Prince-Bishropic of Lucca, ruled by a Prince-Bishop, to the Archbishropic of Lucca, ruled by an Archbishop (Historical)

Serene Republic of Pisa:
• Changed the Serene Republic of Pisa, ruled by a Serene Doge, to the Maritime Republic of Pisa, ruled by a Consul (Historical)
• Created the Orlandi dynasty, with two living members and tre deceased members. The House head is Giovanni Orlandi. (Historical, although relationships are supposed / made up. Needed for change of title)
• Created the Sassetta dynasty, with one living member, Lidora di Sassetta. (Non-historical dynasty and person. Needed a place-holder as the wife of Giovanni Orlandi).
• Revoked the title of Consul of Pisa from Tedice Gherardesca and gave it to Giovanni Orlandi (Historical. The della Gherardesca dynasty didn’t hold Pisa until 1190, when another Tedice della Gherardesca became a podesta)

Other central-Italian states:
• Changed the name of the ruler of Ancona from podesta to consul. (Semi-Historical)
• Renamed Giovanni-Enrico, Prince-Bishop of Ravenna, to Enrico (Historical)
• Changed the Prince-Bishropic of Ravenna, ruled by a Prince-Bishop, to the Archbishropic of Ravenna, ruled by an Archbishop (Historical)
• Changed the name of the dynasty of Ugo II, count of Bologna, from Hucbaldi to Hucpoldi (Historical)

Duchy of Lombardy and vassals:
• Renamed the Duchy of Lombardy to Duchy of Milan (Historical)
• Changed the Duchy of Milan, ruled by a Duke and a Duchess, to the Margraviate of Milan, ruled by a Margrave and a Margravine. (Historical)
• Renamed the County of Lombardia to County of Milano (Historical + makes more sense due to previous rename)
• Replaced republic government with theocracy government in the county of Milano (Historical).
• Changed the Prince-Bishropic of Milano, ruled by a Prince-Bishop, to the Archbishropic of Milano, ruled by an Archbishop (Historical)
• Renamed Giordano, Archbishop of Milano, to Guido, and renamed his dynasty from Carcano to Velate. (Historical. Used the same person and dynasty and didn’t create others because Giordano Carcano was a placeholder).
• Changed the Prince-Bishropic of Cremona, ruled by a Prince-Bishop, to the Bishropic of Cremona, ruled by a Bishop (Historical)
• Changed the Prince-Bishropic of Genoa, ruled by a Prince-Bishop, to the Archbishropic of Genoa, ruled by an Archbishop (Historical)

Other northern-Italian states:
• Changed the Prince-Bishropic of Aquileia, ruled by a Prince-Bishop, to the Patriarchy of Aquileia, ruled by a Patriarch (Historical)
• Changed the County of Monferrato, ruled by a Count and a Countess, to the Marquisate of Monferrato, ruled by a Marquis and a Marchioness. (Historical)
• Changed the Prince-Bishropic of Novara, ruled by a Prince-Bishop, to the Bishropic of Novara, ruled by a Bishop (Historical)
• Gave Oddone II, Bishop of Novara, the nickname “the Prudent” (Historical)

Sardinia:
• Renamed Torchitor, Judike of Cagliari, to Orzocorre Torgodorio (Historical. Is possibly an Italian spelling and not a Sardinian one. Looking forward to solve this)
• Renamed Andria, Judike of Logudoro, to Andria Tancu (Historical)

== Future improvements ==
• Considering adding a regency to Tuscany (Historical, but could be gameplay incompatible / irrelevant)
• Considering adding a co-monarchy in Benevento (Historical, but could be gameplay incompatible)
Thinking about what to do with Napoli being a vassal of the Byzantine empire and Bari still being occupied by the byzantines (Historical, but could make the gameplay insanely difficult)
• Thinking about what to do with Palermo, since around 1066 it declared a semi-republic (Could be gameplay incompatible and could block the player to set Palermo as the capital)
• Thinking about what to do with the holder of the county of Bologna (there are few documents that mention Bologna around that time)
• Thinking about what to do with Urbino being a republic (Unattested)
• Reviewing the genealogy of the house of Parma in the Lucca dynasty (Futile as they would be assumption of the few surviving documents)
• Doing researches to understand if the Treviso dynasty, who hold the county of Friuli, is the same as the historically attested Collalto dynasty
• Doing researches to rename some ambiguous counties (Like Lanciano or Camarda) with names of counties that actually existed.
