Daqin
Daqin, the Chinese name for Rome. The size of a small DLC, this mod adds a whole bunch of new content covering a theoretical Chinese-Byzantine/Roman melting pot.
2 Brand New Melting-Pot Cultures
Those who can bring both Han and Greek rulers into their Kingdoms may find them blending into the new Sinogreek culture. Those who reattain the glory of Daqin, the Dragon of the West, may find a new Sinoroman culture as well.
Both of these cultures are fully feature complete, with unique buildings, retinues, cultural titles for ranks, names, events, and so much more, all based on real history.
Over 200 new playable events and decisions
There might be more, there’s definitely a lot! This is the bulk of the mod, and rivals Way of Life in terms of sheer event size and flavour. These cover everything from daily life under the new culture, uncovering the mysteries of the past, gaining and upgrading your army leadership traits, and – of course – reforming the empires of Fulin or Daqin!
New Government
The Emperor of Fulin or Daqin adopts the new government type: the CELESTIAL PRINCIPATE . Combining elements of Chinese and Roman bureaucracy, this new powerful government type is quite the boon for a ruler of the Sinogreeks. However, it comes with a single caveat: The Mandate of Heaven.
This government comes with custom titles, custom minor titles, and a spiffy new government icon!
The Mandate of Heaven
This is a brand new system, exclusive to the Celestial Principate. Under the Mandate, rebellion is considered to be a just act – there’s no divine right of kings here! Should a ruler fail to live up to the ideals of a ruler, to show weakness, to be absent from the throne, or to be a young child, they risk losing the Mandate of Heaven: their divine right to rule. Under such a circumstance, their realm may splinter, causing powerful warlords and scheming internal vassals to scramble for power over the throne!
This system ensures a powerful Empire can never rest on it’s laurels – it could all come crashing down at any moment! It works to mimic the kinds of crises faced by both Rome and China, like the infamous Crisis of the Third Century, or the War of the Three Kingdoms. Will your dreams of unification fall like Cao Cao, or will you rise from the crisis as a new Aurelian, the Restorer of the World?
So, so much more
Bloodlines, artefacts, even MORE flavour, event modifiers, a ‘unique’ (it’s barely used in the base game) hat for the Emperor, historical context for all your edutainment needs. The only way to discover all of it is to get stuck in!
The DLC has been integrated all over Daqin. You might find you can use grace in a research event, or call on your monastic society, or find near-extinct religions to help unify your realm (and I don’t just mean Hellenism!), or that Lifestyle traits unlock unique options in events. The DLC features aren’t sectioned off to being their own things in Daqin, it’s a holistic experience. This does however create problems for users who lack the relevant DLC.
BARE MINIMUM:
You’ll need Legacy of Rome, Holy Fury, and Jade Dragon for the mod to function at all. If you don’t have these, you’ll be missing core features, and the mod won’t work.
RECCOMENDED:
To get the mod to function properly, you’ll need all of the above, and:
– Monks and Mystics
– Rajas of India
– Way of Life
– Reaper’s Due
– Old Gods
These all contain features that I incorporate regularly into the mod, While you should (emphasis on SHOULD) be able to play without them, you’ll find there to be a fair few holes in your experience.
FEATURE COMPLETE:
There’s no real easy way to say this: ALMOST ALL DLC is used in some way in Daqin. It’s a very extensive mod, which means it makes use of all of CK2’s features.
The Republic, Sword of Islam, Horse Lords and Charlemagne are the only ones I could say you can safely cut without a major, noticeable problem with playing Daqin. But even then, I’ll admit, CK2’s DLC systems all blend together a bit for me, so you might be missing things here or there.
You might see a slight performance hit from the fact stuff’s been added to the game, but it should be VERY negligible. Everything here uses modern, optimised code – the melting pot for example was made by me, from scratch, and doesn’t copy the old MTTH melting pots of English or Norman.
Daqin uses a user directory because it’s large enough to cause conflicts. Again, it’s… big. It doesn’t OVERWRITE anything from the base game, so those of you who run big mod lists (with a little tinkering) should be fine.
This mod is INCOMPATIBLE with things like HIP and CK2+. Sorry folks.
If you want to add this mod to your list, remember that Daqin is, at it’s heart, a campaign mod: if you run it, it should be because you want to do a Fulin/Daqin run, in a modlist without other ‘campaign’ style mods like my own Nova Imperium Romanum. That alone will help keep your mod lists down, and your compatibility less headache inducing.
If there are any problems, just ask and I’ll take a look at them, or test them yourself!
I want to thank my friends both in and out the modding scene who contributed to this mod in some way. You know who you are, and how much completing this absolute monster of a mod means. Thank you for your help, your support, and your patience.

Every single historian who’s ever written about the Byzantines, the Romans, Tang, Han, Ming, or Song China, their politics, their food, anything. I both learned and forgot entry-level Chinese in the time it took to make this mod and only had a few friends to translate anything Greek or Latin, so having English sources available for all these things was so incredibly useful. I’m genuinely grateful to live in a time period where I can learn about the ancient history of a people on the other side of the planet, even if this only took me to a surface level.
You! Knowing people enjoy these is always a great motivator to keep making them. And as always: your feedback is appreciated. Whether that’s for balance, for typos, for concepts, or for the fact something is horribly horribly broken.
谢谢!
