G39 Iron Ore Jenny
Iron ore is dense, much more so than coal, and thus specialized wagons are required to carry it. The G39 was a class of large iron ore gondolas built for the PRR in 1961, with specialized ‘strikers’ to allow the car to be loaded into a rotary dumper without need of an entire locomotive.
Finally an end to hauling literally every commodity around in (long, low) gondolas!
