Description:

This mod is designed to do two things: First, it adds more varieties of 4-4-0, 2-6-0, and 2-8-0, because while these types were in service for about 100 years, they changed dramtically over that time, from the tiny 4-4-0s of the 1950s to the beastly 2-8-0s which were some of the last steam locomotives in service in America. They use THE SAME MODELS as the vanilla ones FOR NOW, although custom models are in the works, pending my learning how to make them (heheh).

Secondly, all of the vanilla steam locomotives were delivered with a horrifying defect: their boiler tubes were ruptured, allowing smoke into the regulator. This caused the cylinders to smoke, which changed their performance dramatically. We’ve fixed them all and returned them to their real-world performance statistics.

These are the locomotives currently present in the mod:
4-4-0 "American": 1850. Prototype: W&A "General"
2-6-0 "Mogul": 1865. Prototype: CNJ "Mogul"
2-8-0 "Consolidation": 1866. Prototype: L&M "Consolidation"
2-6-0 "Heavy Mogul": 1899. Prototype: SP M-4
4-4-0 "Heavy Eight-Wheeler": 1900. Prototype: SP E-23
2-8-0 "Heavy Consolidation": 1901. Prototype: SP C-5
4-4-2 "Atlantic": 1906. Prototype: GN K-1.
4-4-0 "Superheated Eight-Wheeler": 1916. Prototype: SP E-23 superheated
2-8-2 "USRA Heavy Mikado": 1918. Prototype: GN O-3
2-6-0 "Superheated Mogul": 1919. Prototype: SP M-6b
2-8-0 "Superheated Consolidation": 1922. Prototype: SP C-9s
4-4-2 "Superheated Atlantic": 1926. Prototype: GN K-1-S
4-12-2 "Union Pacific 4-12-2": 1926. Prototype: UP 9000 series
4-4-2 "Milwaukee Road Class A": 1935. Prototype: CMStP&P Class A
4-8-8-4 "Union Pacific Big Boy": 1941. Prototype: UP 4000 series

Eventually, I’d like to go further and add more types of locomotive. Here’s my todo list:

1. New models for the heavy and superheated 4-4-0, 2-6-0, and 2-8-0: 6 models in total (yeesh). These will be the NYC #999, and the Southern Pacific M-4, M-6, E-23, C-5, and C-9. Also, the 70-C, 100-C tenders to go with them.
2. A decent pacific, probably a Southern Pacific P-10.
3. A heavy deckapod, probably an SP F-1.
4. A Northern or two. I’ll probably do the GS-1 first, but you can bet that a GS-4 will quickly follow.
5. A 4-6-0 or two. At least a T-26 would be nice.
6. Duplicates of some of the above. Maybe a P-1, that GS-4, and a T-1. Maybe also an M-6 because I like them.
7. An SP 3-cylinder 4-10-2. This wouldn’t be that much different from an F-1 or the stock 4-12-2, but it would be cool and fit my Espee theme.
8. If I get this far, some articulateds (cab forwards, obviously). An MC-1, MM-2, AC-5, AM-2, and AC-12 ought to cover it.
9. A Shay, Climax, or Heisler would be lots of fun. Maybe all three.
10. I doubt I’ll make it this far, but if I do… idk, profit???

I would love to make some narrow gauge stuff too, if that ends up being possible and I can figure out how. SP had some cool narrow gauge equipment.

Changelog:

July 22, 2017: v1.0
Added tenders to all the engines (or at least added the correct amount of weight). This has several benefits and drawbacks: on the plus side, your boilers will no longer run dry and explode, saving you money and making the unions happy. Also, since the engines are now a lot heavier, heavy passenger cars won’t seem as heavy. On the downside, most of the engines have just about doubled in weight, meaning they can pull less. If you’re using this in a save, you might want to reduce your train lengths or add more motive power, especially in the early days.

July 24, 2017: v1.1
Rebalanced the heavy and superheated groups to make them more balanced with one another and with introduction dates. Also fixed some of the power ratings for saturated engines.

Hope you guys enjoy and find this useful, and feel free to comment and suggest! Although you might have to twist my arm to get me to stop making SP… 😉
